Sichuan (; zh, c=, labels=no, ; zh, p=Sìchuān; alternatively romanized as Szechuan or Szechwan; formerly also referred to as "West China" or "Western China" by Protestant missions) is a province in Southwest China occupying most of the Sichuan Basin and the easternmost part of the Tibetan Plateau between the Jinsha River on the west, the Daba Mountains in the north and the Yungui Plateau to the south. Jin River (Sichuan)
The Jin River () is a river of Sichuan, China. It flows through the provincial capital of Chengdu. It consists of three parts: the Fu River, an extension of the Fu River (Chinese: 府河）and the Nan River（Chinese: 南河). The Jin River has a long and complex cultural history, dating back to 256 BC when it was formed. Over the course of several dynasties, the Jin River has been has been given different names by the ruler in power at the time. Flowing the provincial capital of Chengdu city, the river historically provided a source for irrigation, boat travel, and a means to dispose of wastewater. As the cities’ population increased, pollution of the river became a major environmental concern leading to regulation projects beginning in 1993. Wuhou District
Wuhou District () is one of 12 urban districts of the prefecture-level city of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, Southwest China. It contains the historic site, Wuhou Temple and Jinli Street. The district is bordered by Jinjiang District to the east, Shuangliu County to the south and west, and Qingyang District to the north. Wuhou District is the largest of the five internal districts of Chengdu as well as being the wealthiest. It contains the areas of Yulin and Shuangnan which are considered to be the two areas of Chengdu with the highest living standards. The name "Wuhou" is short for "Wu-Xiang Hou" (), which is an honorary title given to Zhuge Liang who lived in Chengdu when he served as the chancellor in the Shu Han kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period. Chengdu Research Base Of Giant Panda Breeding
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (or simply Chengdu Panda Base) is a non-profit research and breeding facility for giant pandas and other rare animals. It is located in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Chengdu Panda Base was founded in 1987. It started with 6 giant pandas that were rescued from the wild. By 2008, it had 124 panda births, and the captive panda population has grown to 83. Its stated goal is to "be a world-class research facility, conservation education center, and international educational tourism destination." Partnerships Chengdu Panda Base has partnered with many organizations in improving ways to conserve giant pandas. For example, its partnership with Zoo Atlanta helped the zoo secure the loan of 2 giant pandas. Golden Sun Bird
The Golden Sun Bird or the Sun and Immortal Birds Gold Ornament ( zh, t=太陽神鳥金飾, s=太阳神鸟金饰, p=Tàiyáng Shénniǎo Jīnshì) is an ancient artifact, unearthed in 2001 from the Jinsha Ruins in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, China. It is a ring-shaped piece of foil, made of nearly pure gold. The pattern consists of four birds, flying in the same counterclockwise direction, located around the perimeter. The center is a sun pattern with twelve points. It is 12.5 cm in diameter, with a 5.29 cm inner diameter. It has a thickness of 0.02 cm, and weighs 20 grams. The piece is from the late Sanxingdui culture, and is now located in the Chengdu Jinsha Ruins Museum. Logo Function It is the logo of China Cultural Heritage. Anshun Bridge
The Anshun Bridge () is a bridge in the provincial capital of Chengdu in Sichuan, China. It crosses the Jin River. The covered bridge contains a relatively large restaurant and is a popular eating location in the city. History The original Anshun Bridge was constructed in 1746 by Lingan Hongdui along the Jin River. In 1947, a flood ravaged the city and destroyed the original bridge. The bridge was constructed in 2003 as a replacement of the old bridge which was destroyed by a flood in the 1980s. Sub-provincial Division
A sub-provincial division () in China is a prefecture-level city governed by a province promoted by half a level. Thus, it is half a level under the provincial level (hence the name sub-provincial) but half a level above the prefecture-level. The promotion applies to all its subdivisions, administrative institutions, and political parties.
