History

The station was opened on 20 September 1925, upon the inauguration of the
Villa Literno–Napoli Gianturco railway The Villa Literno–Napoli Gianturco railway (also called the ''Naples Passante'') is a 16 km-long double track line which connects the line to Rome via Formia with the line to Salerno near Napoli Gianturco station through Naples and its n ...
. Originally, the station had 5 platforms for passenger services, but since 2009 only platforms 3 and 4 are in operation. Since 2017, the station is unstaffed. The Line 6 railway, designed by Lampugnani and entry into service February 4, 2007, is the current terminus of the Line 6 while waiting for the line to be extended to
