The flag of Uganda ( Ugandan Languages: ''Bendera ya Uganda'') was adopted on 9 October 1962, the date that Uganda became independent from the British Empire. Langi People
The Lango are a Nilo-Hamitic ethnic group of the Ateker peoples. They live in north-central Uganda, in a region that covers the area formerly known as the Lango District until 1974, when it was split into the districts of Apac and Lira, and subsequently into several additional districts. The current Lango Region now includes the districts of Amolatar, Alebtong, Apac, Dokolo, Kole, Lira, Oyam, Otuke, and Kwania. The total population of the Lango District is around 1,500,000. The Lango speak in “ LebLango”, a mixture of Ateker peoples dialects and broken Luo languages. Early history The Lango oral tradition states that they were part of the "Lango race" during the migration period. Geographic Centre Of Uganda (Amolatar Monument)
The geographic centre of Uganda is north of Lake Kyoga in Olyaka village, Olyaka parish in Namasale sub-county in Amolatar District, Northern Uganda. The point is marked by the Amolatar Monument which displays the names of all ethnic tribes in Uganda. The Amolatar peninsula offered refuge to different tribes during the Karimojong cattle rustling of the 1970s through to the 1980s and early 1990s most of whom ended up settling in the district. Once a year, in September, people from all tribes of the region gather at this place and pray. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics ("UBOS") is an agency of the Ugandan government. Formed by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998, the agency is mandated to "coordinate, monitor and supervise Uganda's National Statistical System". Lira is a city in the Northern Region, Uganda, Northern Region of Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative, and commercial centre of Lira District. History Lira was one of the last towns in Uganda held by loyalists of Idi Amin during the Uganda–Tanzania War (1978–1979).
