Zdeňka Deitchová
Zdeňka Deitchová (born May 18, 1928 in Prague, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech animator and production manager, and the director for the Bratři v triku studio. Deitchová worked on a variety of projects like Krtek and other films. She was married to American-born animator Gene Deitch until his death in 2020. Early life Zdeňka Najmanová was born on May 18, 1928 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Her father worked for Czechoslovak Railways. In 1935 after her mother died suddenly, she was raised by her father, František Hrachovec, and her older brother, František Hrachovec. In Prague, she attended and graduated from the School of Applied Arts. Career Deitchová got a job as an animator at the Bratři v triku studio. Gene Deitch
Eugene Merril Deitch (August 8, 1924 – April 16, 2020) was an American illustrator, animator, comics artist, and film director who was based in Prague from the 1960s until his death in 2020. Deitch was known for creating animated cartoons such as ''Munro (film), Munro'', ''Tom Terrific'', and ''Nudnik'', as well as his work on the ''Popeye'' and ''Tom and Jerry'' series. Early life Deitch was born in Chicago on August 8, 1924, the son of salesman Joseph Deitch and Ruth Delson Deitch. In 1929, the family moved to California, and Deitch attended school in Hollywood. He graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1942. Early career After graduating, Deitch began working for North American Aviation, drawing aircraft blueprints. Bratři v triku is a Czech animation studio founded in 1945. Later in 1956, it is now a subsidiary of Krátký film Prague. History The studio was founded in 1945. It was responsible for many award-winning films such as Munro. Famous animators such as Zdeněk Miler, Jiří Trnka, Břetislav Pojar. Jiří Brdečka and Zdeněk Smetana are linked with the studio. Post Bellum is a Czech educational nonprofit organization based in Prague. The organization was formed in 2001 by a group of historians and journalists with the aim of increasing public knowledge of the 20th century history of the Czech Republic and neighboring countries, especially among younger generations. Mole (Czech: ''Krtek'', ''Krteček'') is an animated character in a series of cartoons created by Czech animator Zdeněk Miler. The premiere of the first short film with Mole took place at the Venice Film Festival in 1957. Since its inception, the cartoon has gained enormous popularity in many Central European countries, as well as India, China, Kazakhstan, Croatia, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Iran, Iraq, and Japan. History Krtek was first seen in 1956 in Prague, when Miler wanted to create a children's cartoon about how flax is processed. He wanted a strong Disney influence to the cartoon by choosing an animal for the leading role, and decided to pick a mole after stumbling over a molehill during a walk.
