Marvin Young (born May 10, 1967), better known by his stage name Young M.C., is a British-born American rapper, singer and actor. He is best known for his 1989 hit " Bust a Move". His debut album '' Stone Cold Rhymin''' found international acclaim; however, subsequent albums have not reached the same level of success. Young has also appeared in film in acting roles and cameo appearances and has appeared in several television programs. Life and career Young was born in London, to Jamaican immigrant parents. He left the United Kingdom at the age of three and later moved to Queens, New York, when he was eight years old. Young attended Hunter College High School in the Upper East Side of Manhattan (he was honored at the school’s 2018 convocation). "Funky Cold Medina" is a hip hop song written by Young MC, Matt Dike and Michael Ross, and first performed by American rapper, actor and producer Tone Lōc. It was the second single from Lōc's debut album, '' Lōc-ed After Dark'' (1989). The single was released on March 18, 1989, and rose to number three on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 the following month where it went platinum, selling over one million copies and becoming the second ever platinum-certified rap single (after '' Wild Thing'' from the same album being the first). It peaked on the UK Singles Chart at number 13 in May of that year. "Wild Thing" is a single by American rapper Tone Lōc from his 1989 album '' Lōc-ed After Dark''. The title is a reference to the phrase "doin' the wild thing," a euphemism for sex. According to producer Mario Caldato Jr., who engineered and mixed the song, producer Michael Ross was inspired by an utterance of Fab 5 Freddy “Come on baby let’s do the wild thing" in Spike Lee's ''She's Gotta Have It'', and asked Young MC to write the lyrics. Tone Lōc's song peaked at number two on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in February 1989, only behind Paula Abdul's breakthrough hit " Straight Up". It inspired at least two parodies (the '' Gilligan's Island''-themed "Isle Thing" by "Weird Al" Yankovic, which was Yankovic's first rap parody; and " Child King" by Christian band ApologetiX). Matt Dike (December 2, 1961 – January 16, 2018) was an American music executive, record producer, and DJ. He co-founded the hip-hop record label Delicious Vinyl in 1987. In the 1980s, Dike was artist Jean-Michel Basquiat's studio assistant and he worked on the Beastie Boys album '' Paul's Boutique'' (1989). He co-wrote and produced the song " Bust A Move" (1989) by Young MC, and co-produced " Smart Girls" (1991) by Brian Wilson.
