York Lokomotive
York Lokomotive are a rugby league team based in York, North Yorkshire. They play in the Yorkshire Premier division of the Rugby League Conference. History ''York Lokomotive'' were founded in 2008 as a joint-venture between York Groves rugby league team and the York Railway Institute sporting club. The name of the club was taken from York being one of the biggest railway cities in England. One of the biggest steam railway depots in the UK was based in York and was known as "York Locomotive". The "C" in Locomotive was changed to a "K" to emulate the Russian rugby league club Lokomotiv Moscow. They joined the Yorkshire division of the Rugby League Conference, Paul McDermott was head coach. They finished in second-place in the league after losing their last game to Scarborough Pirates 30-26 to Bridlington Bulls who prevailed in the Yorkshire division grand final. Rugby League Conference
The Rugby League Conference (RLC) (also known as the Co-operative Rugby League Conference as a result of sponsorship from The Co-operative Group), was a series of regionally based divisions of amateur rugby league teams spread throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The RLC was founded as the 10-team Southern Conference League in 1997, with teams from the southern midlands and the south east, but has subsequently, rebranded and expanded both geographically and numerically to include around 90 teams stretched across almost the whole of Great Britain from Aberdeen in northern Scotland down to Plymouth on the south coast of England. The aim of the RLC was initially to provide regular fixtures for new clubs based outside the 'heartland' of rugby league, although as the playing standards increased, it also accepted teams from the 'heartlands'. Rugby League Conference Yorkshire Premier
The Rugby League Conference Yorkshire Premier is a division in the Rugby League Conference for teams in the Yorkshire area. It was first contested in 2008 following the break-up of the previous North Premier into the North West and Yorkshire Premiers. History The Rugby League Conference was born in 1997 as the Southern Conference, a 10-team pilot league for teams in the South of England and English Midlands. Rotherham Giants became the first Yorkshire-based team to join when they entered the Northern division in 2000. RC Lokomotiv Moscow is a professional Russian rugby football club based in Moscow, which from 2010 will field teams in both rugby league and rugby union. The club is one of the oldest in Russia. Originally a club for those who worked on the railways, they participated in the first USSR rugby union championship in 1937. Lokomotiv were Soviet Championship winners in 1983. During the existence of the USSR, RC Lokomotiv Moscow club was a part of the Lokomotiv Voluntary Sports Society. In 1991, following York City Knights and Fulham's tour to the country, the club switched from rugby union to rugby league, owing mostly to rugby union's amateur status at the time, and the desire by players to be paid. Scarborough Pirates ARLFC was the name of an amateur rugby league team which competed in the Rugby League Conference Yorkshire Premier and British Amateur Rugby League Association winter leagues. Knavesmire
The Knavesmire is one of a number of large, marshy undeveloped areas within the city of York in North Yorkshire, England, which are collectively known as '' Strays''. Knavesmire, together with Hob Moor, comprises Micklegate Stray. It has been suggested that the name 'Knavesmire' may share a derivation with Knaresborough—Cenward's mire. History Situated in the south-west of the city, some distance outside the historic walls, Knavesmire's low-lying position makes it liable to severe flooding in times of heavy rain.
