The Wuhan Gators are a professional arena football team based in Wuhan, Hubei. They are members of the China Arena Football League (CAFL). They were originally called the Shenzhen Naja and were based in Shenzhen, Guangdong. They were named after the species of Naja, cobra that lives in the region. Their home stadium was the New Shenzhen Arena, Shenzhen Dayun Arena. In 2017, the Naja relocated to become the Wuhan Gators. Wuhan (, ; ; ) is the capital of Hubei, Hubei Province in the China, People's Republic of China. 2018 CAFL Season
The 2019 CAFL season was the second season of the China Arena Football League (CAFL). Background After the 2016 season, the Dalian Dragon Kings and Shenzhen Naja relocated to become the Shenyang Black Rhinos and Wuhan Gators, respectively. In June 2017, it was announced that the 2017 season was being moved to the spring of 2018. In January 2018, the league postponed the start of their second season to continue to establish business partnerships in China. The league has targeted a return to play in the autumn of 2019. In September 2019, the CAFL released an abbreviated schedule, with a two-game regular season and a playoff tournament featuring all four teams, with games played November 6, 9, 20 and 23. Uniquely among professional football leagues, the CAFL playoff seeds were set as part of the schedule, with the semifinal round (December 6) consisting of the two matchups that did not play in the regular season. ''Naja'' is a genus of venomous elapid snakes commonly known as cobras (or "true cobras"). Members of the genus ''Naja'' are the most widespread and the most widely recognized as "true" cobras. Various species occur in regions throughout Africa, Southwest Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Several other elapid species are also called "cobras", such as the king cobra (''Ophiophagus hannah'') and the rinkhals (''Hemachatus haemachatus''), but neither are true cobras, in that they do not belong to the genus ''Naja'', but instead each belong to monotypic genera ''Hemachatus'' (the rinkhals) and ''Ophiophagus'' (the king cobra/hamadryad).
