William Thomas Mills
William Thomas "Bill" Mills (1924 – October 9, 2011) was a business owner and politician in Ontario, Canada. He served as mayor of Kingston from 1959 to 1964. The son of William and Beatrice Mills, he was educated at Queen's University. Mills operated an office supplies business. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was married to Thelma Byron around 1948. Mills ran for mayor again in 1967, losing to incumbent George Speal. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the Kingston seat in the Ontario assembly, losing to Syl Apps. Queen's University At Kingston
Queen's University at Kingston, commonly known as Queen's University or simply Queen's, is a public research university in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Queen's holds more than of land throughout Ontario and owns Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, England. Queen's is organized into eight faculties and schools. The Church of Scotland established Queen's College in October 1841 via a royal charter from Queen Victoria. The first classes, intended to prepare students for the ministry, were held 7 March 1842 with 13 students and two professors. Kingston, Ontario
Kingston is a city in Ontario, Canada. It is located on the north-eastern end of Lake Ontario, at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River (south end of the Rideau Canal). George Speal
George Nicholas Speal, (1932 – December 27, 2008) was a lawyer and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He served as mayor of Kingston from 1973 to 1976. He was born in Kingston, the son of Greek immigrants, and was educated at Kingston Collegiate, Queen's University and Osgoode Hall Law School. Speal was called to the Ontario bar in 1958. In 1974, he was named Queen's Counsel. During his term as mayor, the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour was redeveloped to host sailing events for the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal and the annual tradition of the Mayor's Levee at Kingston City Hall on New Year's Day was established. Syl Apps
Charles Joseph Sylvanus Apps, (January 18, 1915 – December 24, 1998), was a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1936 to 1948, an Olympic pole vaulter and a Conservative Member of Provincial Parliament in Ontario. In 2017 Apps was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history. Athletic career Apps was a strong athlete, six feet tall, weighing 185 pounds, and won the gold medal at the 1934 British Empire Games in the pole vault competition. Two years later he represented Canada at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany, where he placed sixth in the pole vault event. After watching him play football at McMaster University, Conn Smythe signed Apps to play hockey with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Pneumonia is an inflammatory condition of the lung primarily affecting the small air sacs known as alveoli. A myocardial infarction (MI), commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when blood flow decreases or stops to the coronary artery of the heart, causing damage to the heart muscle. The most common symptom is chest pain or discomfort which may travel into the shoulder, arm, back, neck or jaw. Often it occurs in the center or left side of the chest and lasts for more than a few minutes. The discomfort may occasionally feel like heartburn.
