William Findlater (Manitoba Politician)
William Blain Findlater (October 20, 1871—March 26, 1962) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1915 to 1922. Findlater was a member of the Liberal Party. Findlater was born at Belmore, in Huron County, Ontario, the son of Alexander Findlater and Mary Pipe, and was educated at public schools in the region. He later moved to Manitoba, and worked as a farmer and driver. In 1905, he married Mary Dickie. He was first elected to the Manitoba legislature in the 1915 provincial election, defeating Conservative incumbent Sam Hughes by 591 votes in the constituency of Gilbert Plains. Sam Hughes (Manitoba Politician)
Sam Hughes (June 13, 1873 – March 24, 1940) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1910 to 1915, as a member of the Conservative Party. Hughes was born in Durham County, Ontario, and was educated at Hamilton Business College. He was a cousin to Sir Sam Hughes. He worked as a farmer and stock dealer, and was director of L.L.T. Stooker Co. In 1890 he came to Manitoba. Hughes was also a councillor and reeve in the Rural Municipality of Grandview, and served as vice-president of the Agricultural Society. In religion, he was a Methodist. He married Annie Adkins of Winnipeg in 1901, and they had five children. He was first elected to the Manitoba legislature in the 1910 provincial election, defeating his Liberal opponent by 105 votes in the constituency of Gilbert Plains. Dauphin, Manitoba
Dauphin () is a city in Manitoba, Canada, with a population of 8,457 as of the 2016 Canadian Census, with an additional 2,388 living in the surrounding Rural Municipality of Dauphin (RM), for a total of 10,845 in the RM and city combined. The city takes its name from Lake Dauphin and Fort Dauphin (first built 1741), which were named by explorer Pierre Gaultier de La Vérendrye in honour of the Dauphin of France, the heir to the French throne. 1920 Manitoba General Election
The 1920 Manitoba general election was held on June 29, 1920 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. The election resulted in a fragmented parliament, with no group holding effective power over the legislature. Norris's Liberals were re-elected. They remained the largest party, but were reduced to a minority government with 21 seats out of 55. This was the first general election in which women could vote and run for office. 1915 Manitoba General Election
The 1915 Manitoba general election was held August 6, 1915 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. The Liberals under Norris won a landslide majority with 40 seats, replacing the Conservative government that had ruled the province since 1899. This election was held only one year after the previous general election of 1914. In that election, the governing Conservatives of premier Rodmond Roblin were confirmed in office with 28 seats out of 49. In early 1915, however, the Roblin administration was forced to resign from office after a commission appointed by the Lieutenant Governor found the government guilty of corruption in the tending of contracts for new legislative buildings.
