Christianshavns Kanal
Christianshavns Kanal (English language, English: Christianshavn Canal) is a canal in the Christianshavn neighbourhood of Copenhagen, Denmark. Running northeast–southwest, it bisects the neighbourhood along its length. To the north it connects to Trangraven, the canal which separates Christianshavn from Holmen, Copenhagen, Holmen; to the south it makes an angular break and empties in the main harbour a little north of the Langebro bridge. At the middle, Christianshavns Kanal is crossed by Børnehusbroen. This bridge is part of Torvegade, the main thoroughfare of Christianshavn, connecting the city centre across Knippelsbro to the northwest to Amager the southeast. The only other bridge traversing the canal is Snorrebroen, located further north. Søkvæsthuset
Søkvæsthuset is a former Naval hospice located on Christianshavn Canal in the Christianshavn district of Copenhagen, Denmark. The listed building housed the Royal Danish Naval Museum indtil 2016. The collection has been moved to and is exhibited at the Arsenal Museum (Tøjhusmuseet) at Christiansborg. History Earlier locations It is known that a hospital for boatsmen was founded in 1618, most likely at Church of Holmen. It was moved to Gothersgade in 1628 and again in 1658 to ''Sejlhuset'' at Bremerholm. In 1668, the hospital moved to '' Børnehuset'' in Christianshavn and in 1675 to ''Guldhuset'' in Rigensgade. Christianshavn
Christianshavn (literally, "ingChristian's Harbour") is a neighbourhood in Copenhagen, Denmark. Part of the Indre By District, it is located on several artificial islands between the islands of Zealand and Amager and separated from the rest of the city centre by the Inner Harbour. Strandgade ( lit. "Beach Street") is one of the principal streets in the Christianshavn district of Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs along the full length of the neighbourhood, following the harbourfront, from Christian's Church in the south-west to Grønlandske Handels Plads in the north The northern part of the street is a cul-de-sac for motor vehicles while a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists across Trangraven is currently under construction. History Origins Strandgade is one of the streets seen in Johan Semp's plan for Christianshavn from 1617. The original intention was only to build along the south-east side of the street, away from the water, while the beach provided private harbour facilities for the lot owners, who could easily transfer goods from ships to their warehouses and storage cellars. Wilders Plads
Wilders Plads is a waterfront area located just north of Wilders Kanal, a branch of Christianshavns Kanal, in the north-western corner of the Christianshavn neighbourhood of Copenhagen, Denmark. The area is bounded by Christianshavn Canal to the east and Krøyers Plads to the north. Andreas Bjørn's shipyard The area now known as Wilders Plads was in the beginning of the 18th century still merely a marshy area north of Christianshavn. In 1735, Andreas Bjørn, obtained permission from King Christian VI to reclaim the area to establish a shipyard in the grounds. It managed to launch 59 ships before his death in 1750, including the naval ship ''Copenhagen Castle'' (''Kjøbenhavns Slot'') with 44 canons. The oldest building in the area is the half-timbered building at Wilders Plads 10 which was built by Andreas Bjørn in 1736 as housing for workers at his shipyard and workshops for sailmakers.
