Welfare Centre Ground
The Welfare Centre Ground is a cricket ground in Rose Hall, Guyana. History The inaugural first-class cricket match to be played at the ground took place in March 1961, when Berbice played against a touring EW Swanton's XI. British Guiana played Trinidad there in a first-class match in October of the same year. Berbice played first-class matches there until the final of the 1976/77 Jones Cup against Demerara. Between the 1973/74 Shell Shield and the 1985/86 Shell Shield, Guyana played five first-class matches at the ground. Rose Hall, Guyana
Rose Hall is a community in the East Berbice-Corentyne Region of Guyana. Rose Hall is 14 miles east of New Amsterdam. History Rose Hall was once owned by Dutch planters and later purchased by former slaves. In 1908, it acquired village status; and it wasn't until 1970 that it became a town. Rose Hall has an area of 13 km2 and a population of about 8,000. Rose Hall is divided into three wards: Middle Rose Hall, East Rose Hall and Williamsburg. Combined Islands Cricket Team
The Combined Islands cricket team was a cricket team that represented the cricket-playing islands of the Lesser Antilles, excluding Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago who fielded their own teams. They played in 13 Shell Shield tournaments from 1965-66 to 1980-81, when they won their first title and were subsequently disbanded into Leeward Islands and Windward Islands. Those two teams had first-class status before 1980–81, but competed together in the Shell Shield. Lance Gibbs
Lancelot Richard Gibbs (born 29 September 1934) is a former West Indies cricketer, one of the most successful spin bowlers in Test cricket history. He took 309 Test wickets, only the second player (after Fred Trueman) to pass 300, the first spinner to pass that milestone, and had an exceptional economy rate of under two runs per over. In 2009, Gibbs was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. Biography Gibbs made his first-class debut in 1953–54, playing for British Guiana against MCC at his home ground of Bourda. In MCC's first (and indeed only) innings, he bowled Denis Compton for 18 to leave the tourists precariously poised at 51/3. Clyde Butts
Clyde Godfrey Butts (born 8 July 1957) is a former West Indies cricketer who batted right-handed and bowled off breaks. Later, he became a team selector. In a career spanning 14 seasons, he played 87 first class games, including seven Test matches for the West Indies between 1985 and 1988. The West Indies rarely selected spin bowlers when Butts was active – choosing instead to back their four fast bowlers – though he did play five matches on the Indian subcontinent, where teams traditionally select spin bowlers as the pitches are believed to suit them more. It was on the subcontinent that Butts got his best bowling figures, with four for 73 against Pakistan in 1986–87, including the Pakistani captain and all-rounder Imran Khan. The Windward Islands cricket team is a cricket team representing the member countries of the Windward Islands Cricket Board of Control. The team plays in the West Indies Professional Cricket League (including the NAGICO Regional Super50) under the franchise name Windward Islands Volcanoes. It includes the islands that were known as the British Windward Islands except for Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago, who have their own teams. Timur Mohamed
Timur Mohamed (born 7 June 1957) is a former Guyanese cricketer. Mohamed was a left-handed batsman who bowled leg break. He was born in Georgetown, Guyana. Mohamed initially played Youth Test matches and One Day International's for West Indies Young Cricketers, who he also captained. Mohamed made his first-class debut for Guyana against a Combined Leeward and Windward Islands team in 1976. He made 35 further first-class appearances for Guyana, the last of which came against the Leeward Islands in 1986/87 Shell Shield. In his 36 first-class matches for Guyana, he scored 1,999 runs at an average of 38.44, with a high score of 200 not out. In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. The Regional Four Day Competition, formerly known as Shell Shield and Carib Beer Cup, is the First Class Cricket, first-class cricket competition in the West Indian cricket team, West Indies. It is administered by the Cricket West Indies. In the 2013-2014 season the winner of the tournament was awarded the WICB President's Trophy while the winners of the knockout competition were awarded the George Headley/Everton Weekes trophy. In a few previous seasons the winners of the tournament were awarded the Headley/Weekes trophy. Demerara Cricket Team
Demerara cricket team played first class cricket in the Jones Cup, later the Guystac Trophy, and came from the former British colony of Demerara, which is now a county of Guyana, formerly British Guiana. Guystac Trophy
The Guystac Trophy was a Guyanese inter-county cricket tournament, the final of which had first-class status. The tournament was played annually, the final being usually between Demerara and Berbice Berbice is a region along the Berbice River in Guyana, which was between 1627 and 1792 a colony of the Dutch West India Company and between 1792 to 1815 a colony of the Dutch state.
