Weingarten (Pfalz)
Weingarten () is a municipality in the district of Germersheim, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Geography Weingarten lies 12 km west of Germersheim, about 16 km northeast of Landau, and about 13 km southwest of Speyer. History Weingarten is one of the oldest settlements in ''Vorderpfalz'' (the eastern part of Pfalz that lies in the Rhine valley). It is mentioned in the records of Lorsch in 771. The nobles of Weingarten lived in the ''Schloßberg'' starting in 1226. It was destroyed in 1525. In 1536, Weingarten became Protestant, and the present Lutheran church dates from the first half of the 16th century. The west tower is somewhat older. Archaeological findings date occupation of the site to the Bronze Age, with Roman remnants, as well. Germersheim (district)
Germersheim () is a district in the south-east of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from west clockwise) Südliche Weinstraße, Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis, the district Karlsruhe as well as the district-free city of Karlsruhe, and the French ''département'' Bas-Rhin. History Most of the region was part of the Palatinate from the 11th century on. The bishops of Speyer owned some lands, too. The Palatinate was destroyed in the Napoleonic Wars, and the clerical states of Germany were dissolved in 1803. After a period of French occupation the Congress of Vienna decided to hand the territories over to Bavaria. The region remained a part of Bavaria until World War II; afterwards it was incorporated into the newly established state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Germersheim () is a town in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, of around 20,000 inhabitants. It is also the seat of the Germersheim (district), Germersheim district. Landau ( pfl, Landach), officially Landau in der Pfalz, is an autonomous (''kreisfrei'') town surrounded by the Südliche Weinstraße ("Southern Wine Route") district of southern Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The Palatinate (german: Pfalz; Palatine German: ''Palz'') is a region of Germany. Lorsch is a town in the Bergstraße district in Hessen, Germany, 60 km south of Frankfurt. Lorsch is well known for the Lorsch Abbey, which has been named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
