Warsaw Stadion Railway Station
Warszawa Stadion, in English Warsaw Stadium, is a railway station in Warsaw, Poland, located in the district of Praga-Południe close to the National Stadium (''Stadion Narodowy''). The station has two side platforms flanking the suburban tracks of the Warsaw Cross-City Line. The platforms are used by regional trains run by Koleje Mazowieckie and Szybka Kolej Miejska. The station building was designed by Arseniusz Romanowicz and Piotr Szymaniak and opened between 1955 and 1958, to serve Stadion Dziesięciolecia. The station was renovated shortly before the Euro 2012 football championships. It is also close to the Stadion Narodowy metro station Stadion Narodowy is an underground station on the central part of Line M2 of the Warsaw Metro. Praga-Południe
Praga-South ( pl, Praga-Południe, ) is a district of Warsaw located on the east bank of the Vistula River. It consists of Grochów, Gocław, Kamionek and Saska Kępa. History The area of today's Praga-South has been inhabited since at least the 7th century. There are traces of settlements established earlier than Warsaw itself. However, the swampy and often flooded terrain was deserted as soon as Warsaw was founded. Since the 16th century it was again populated, but due to lack of communication with Warsaw (until the 19th century there were no permanent bridges across the Vistula at Warsaw) it was an unimportant suburb. Stadion Narodowy Metro Station
Stadion Narodowy is an underground station on the central part of Line M2 of the Warsaw Metro. It is named after the Stadion Narodowy (National Stadium), which is located in the area. The station fully opened for passenger use on 8 March 2015 as part of the inaugural stretch of Line M2 between Rondo Daszyńskiego and Dworzec Wileński. It was designed by Polish architect Andrzej M. Chołdzyński and constructed by Metroprojekt. Murals were created by Wojciech Fangor, artist of the Polish School of Posters. The station was constructed under Sokola street parallel to the Warsaw Stadion railway station, which was refurbished at the same time, with a direct interchange between them. Stadion Dziesięciolecia ( en, 10th-Anniversary Stadium), opened in 1955, was for decades the largest stadium in Warsaw, and one of the largest in Poland. Under the Polish People's Republic, it was one of the most advertised construction sites and a principal venue for Party and state festivities. In the 1980s the stadium became dilapidated, as no funds could be found to refurbish it. After 1989 it was used mainly as a bazaar called Jarmark Europa, becoming famous as the place to buy a whole range of goods, most notably clothes, software, hardware and media. Its demolition began in September 2008, and the new National Stadium was constructed in its place to serve as one of the venues for Euro 2012. Masovian Railways, in Polish Koleje Mazowieckie, is a regional rail operator in the Masovian Voivodeship of Poland. History The company was founded in 2004 as a joint venture of the Masovian Voivodeship, with 51% shares, and the, then government-owned, PKP Przewozy Regionalne, with 49% shares, to handle local passenger traffic in the Voivodeship. Warsaw Cross-City Line
Warsaw cross-city line ( pl, Linia Średnicowa w Warszawie) is a 7 km railway line crossing Central Warsaw in the east–west direction. Opened in 1933 and electrified in 1936, it initially had two tracks, with an additional two added in 1967. The central part of the line is in a tunnel, which is 2226m long. It then crosses the Vistula by the Średnicowy railway bridge 470.15 m long located between Poniatowski Bridge and Świętokrzyski Bridge. The line provides a direct link between Warszawa Wschodnia and Warszawa Zachodnia stations. The pre-1945 Warszawa Główna was located approximately halfway down the line. A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway.
