Warsaw Cross-City Line
Warsaw cross-city line ( pl, Linia Średnicowa w Warszawie) is a 7 km railway line crossing Central Warsaw in the east–west direction. Opened in 1933 and electrified in 1936, it initially had two tracks, with an additional two added in 1967. The central part of the line is in a tunnel, which is 2226m long. It then crosses the Vistula by the Średnicowy railway bridge 470.15 m long located between Poniatowski Bridge and Świętokrzyski Bridge. The line provides a direct link between Warszawa Wschodnia and Warszawa Zachodnia stations. The pre-1945 Warszawa Główna was located approximately halfway down the line. The station has been replaced by Warszawa Śródmieście and later supplemented by Warszawa Centralna, which is located to the west of the old station. Warsaw has seen major infrastructural changes over the past few years amidst increased foreign investment and economic growth. The city has a much improved infrastructure with new roads, flyovers, bridges, etc. Public transport in Warsaw is ubiquitous, serving the city with buses, trams, and metro. Although many streets were widened, and new ones created, during rebuilding of Warsaw in 1950s, the city is currently plagued with traffic problems. The main reason is that in the Communist times, the traffic was small due to the low number of private cars – not only because of prices of cars, but also because of a hard to obtain special coupon necessary to buy a car. Traffic engineers did not foresee the drastically large increase in the number of cars: in 2005, there were 800,000 cars in Warsaw. Powiśle (pronounced ; literally ''along-the-Vistula'') is a neighbourhood in Warsaw's borough of Śródmieście (Downtown). It is located between the Vistula river and its escarpment. Historically, it is composed of three neighbourhoods: central Powiśle, Mariensztat to the north (just below the Warsaw's Old Town) and Solec to the south. Warszawa Śródmieście WKD (Polish pronunciation: ) is the city terminus of the Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa (WKD) suburban light rail line in Warsaw. It is situated in Aleje Jerozolimskie to the south-west of Warszawa Centralna railway station. The station was opened on 8 December 1963. The station platform is located below the ground level to the south of the approach tracks to Warszawa Centralna, which can be seen from the platform. The station has an unusual layout and method of operation, with a single long platform alongside the southern (city-bound) track. Warszawa Stadion, in English Warsaw Stadium, is a railway station in Warsaw, Poland, located in the district of Praga-Południe close to the Stadion Narodowy, National Stadium (''Stadion Narodowy'').
