''Végétal'' is the second studio album by singer-songwriter Émilie Simon. Overall, it is her third album, the soundtrack to the French version of ''March of the Penguins'' included. The album has a floral theme running through it. All the lyrics relate to plants and there are also sounds taken from actual plants. The CD can be used in Émilie Simon's official website to access exclusive content such as bonus tracks, remixes, and a music video for "Fleur De Saison". A special edition of the album was released in December 2006, featuring bonus tracks, remixes of "Fleur De Saison" and Opium, an exclusive short film on the making of the album and the video clip for "Fleur De Saison" on a bonus CD. So far, 5 editions of ''Végétal'' exists, each one different from each other through the inclusion of extras and bonuses. Émilie Simon (; born 1978 in Montpellier, Occitanie, France) is a French singer, songwriter and composer of electronic music. Music ''Émilie Simon'' In May 2003, she released her debut album '' Émilie Simon''. The electronic album was critically acclaimed and went on to become a commercial success. To promote her album, she did numerous live performances and TV appearances all over France. In 2004, she was rewarded with a Victoire de la musique in the 'Electronic Album' category for the album. Two music videos were made to promote ''Émilie Simon'' for the songs " Désert" and "Flowers". The English version of "Désert" had an identical music video to the French version. Ultratop is an organization which generates and publishes the official record charts in Belgium. Ultratop is a non-profit organization, created on the initiative of the Belgian Entertainment Association (BEA), the Belgian member organization of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. Le Tigre
Le Tigre (, ; French for "The Tiger") is an American electronic rock band formed by Kathleen Hanna (of Bikini Kill), Johanna Fateman and Sadie Benning in 1998 in New York City. Benning left in 2000 and was replaced by JD Samson for the rest of the group's existence. They mixed punk's directness and politics with playful samples, eclectic pop, and lo-fi electronics. Neimo is an indie rock band from France. The band pairs guitar with electronic elements to create a Euro-rock and 1980s sound. Neimo is influenced by David Bowie, Blondie, Emilie Simon, New Order, Velvet Underground and the Stooges. History The band has not been widely accepted in France as the songs are all sung in English. According to the band's lead singer Bruno Alexandre, the band chose to compose the songs in English because "rock is based on sweat, spontaneity and energy. Sorry, but rock and roll was born in the United States." The debut album, ''From Scratch'', was released under the band's own label, Big Field Records, on May 25, 2005. Johanna Rachel Fateman (born May 16, 1974) is an American writer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. She is a member of the post-punk rock band Le Tigre and founded the band MEN with Le Tigre bandmate JD Samson. Early life and education Fateman grew up in Berkeley, California, where her father, computer scientist Richard Fateman is a professor at UC Berkeley. On the official Le Tigre website, Fateman refers to filmmaker Miranda July as being her "best friend from high school"; July is also from Berkeley. At the age of seventeen, Fateman moved to Portland, Oregon, to attend Reed College, which she later left for art school in New York City. JD Samson (born August 4, 1978), stage name of Jocelyn Samson is an American musician, producer, songwriter and DJ best known as a member of the bands Le Tigre and MEN. Background Samson grew up in Pepper Pike, Ohio, and attended Orange High School. Samson came out as a lesbian at age 15 and is well known for her support of both LGBT and feminist causes. In high school, Samson played field hockey and was involved in her school's gay-straight alliance. Samson graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 2000, with a degree in film. While at school, Samson held jobs as a manager of a coffee shop, a campus tour guide, and as a research assistant for her queer-theory professor.
