Virgin And Child (Parmigianino)
''Virgin and Child'' is an unfinished c.1527-1528 oil on panel painting by Parmigianino, now in the Courtauld Gallery in London. As it is usually identified with one which Giorgio Vasari sketched in Bologna and later bought for himself, it is sometimes also known as the Vasari Madonna. The work passed through unknown hands after Vasari, eventually ending up in Lord Kinnard's collection, from whose successors Antoine Seilern acquired it via Colnaghi in 1965 before bequeathing it to the Courtauld in 1978. A preparatory drawing in the Albertina in Vienna shows an angel omitted from the final work. The architectural background of the painting is complete, but traces of the underdrawing and preparation still show behind both the Madonna and Child, with much of her mantle still unpainted. That background draws on Roman examples and refers to Raphael's Madonnas, whilst the Madonna's pose draws on that of the Erythraean Sibyl in Michelangelo Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti ...

Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola (11 January 150324 August 1540), also known as Francesco Mazzola or, more commonly, as Parmigianino (, , ; "the little one from Parma"), was an Italian Mannerist painter and printmaker active in Florence, Rome, Bologna, and his native city of Parma. His work is characterized by a "refined sensuality" and often elongation of forms and includes ''Vision of Saint Jerome'' (1527) and the iconic if somewhat anomalous ''Madonna with the Long Neck'' (1534), and he remains the best known artist of the first generation whose whole careers fall into the Mannerist period. Courtauld Gallery
The Courtauld Gallery () is an art museum in Somerset House, on the Strand in central London. It houses the collection of the Courtauld Institute of Art, a self-governing college of the University of London specialising in the study of the history of art. The Courtauld collection was formed largely through donations and bequests and includes paintings, drawings, sculptures and other works from medieval to modern times; it is particularly known for its French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. Giorgio Vasari
Giorgio Vasari (, also , ; 30 July 1511 – 27 June 1574) was an Italian Renaissance Master, who worked as a painter, architect, engineer, writer, and historian, who is best known for his work ''The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects'', considered the ideological foundation of all art-historical writing, and the basis for biographies of several Renaissance artists, including Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Vasari designed the ''Tomb of Michelangelo'' in the Basilica of Santa Croce, Florence that was completed in 1578. George Kinnaird, 7th Lord Kinnaird
George Kinnaird, 7th Lord Kinnaird (1754–1805) was a Scottish aristocrat, virtuoso, and banker. He was a representative peer in 1787. Life He was the son of Charles Kinnaird, 6th Lord Kinnaird and Barbara Johnstone, daughter of Sir James Johnstone, bart. He succeeded his father in 1767, and entered Pembroke College, Cambridge in 1769, graduating M.A. in 1771. Kinnaird was partner in the banking firm of Ransom, Morland and Hammersley of Pall Mall, London; the MP William Morland was one of the partners, as was Hugh Hammersley MP. Kinnaird fell out with the Prince of Wales, one of the bank's customers, who moved his business to Coutts & Co. He was also chairman of the London Fire Office. Antoine Seilern
Count Antoine Seilern (17 September 1901 – 6 July 1978) was an Anglo-Austrian art collector and art historian. He was considered, along with Sir Denis Mahon, to be one of a handful of important collectors who was also a respected scholar. The bulk of his collection was bequeathed anonymously to the Courtauld Institute of Art. Known as the "Princes Gate bequest", most of it is on display at the Courtauld Gallery in London. Albertina
The Albertina is a museum in the Innere Stadt (First District) of Vienna, Austria. It houses one of the largest and most important print rooms in the world with approximately 65,000 drawings and approximately 1 million old master prints, as well as more modern graphic works, photographs and architectural drawings. Santa Margherita Madonna
The ''Santa Margherita Madonna'' is a 1529-1530 oil on panel painting by Parmigianino, now in the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna. History A fundamental work from the artist's time in Bologna between 1527 and 1530, it was painted for the nuns of the Santa Margherita convent. In his ''Lives of the Artists'' Vasari stated that it showed "Our Lady, Saint Margaret of Antioch, Petronius of Bologna, Saint Petronius, Saint Jerome and Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Michael".
