Vibhavadi District
Vibhavadi ( th, วิภาวดี, , ) is a district (''amphoe'') in the west of Surat Thani province, southern Thailand. Geography Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise): Tha Chang, Phunphin, Khiri Rat Nikhom, and Ban Ta Khun. The district is in the hills of the Phuket mountain range, with part of the district being protected in the Khlong Yan Wildlife Sanctuary and the Kaeng Krung National Park. History The minor district (''king amphoe'') was created on 22 April 1992 by splitting off two ''tambons'' from Khiri Rat Nikhom district. It is named after Princess Vibhavadi Rangsit, who was killed in 1977 when rebels shot down her helicopter in eastern Surat Thani Province. Muban
Muban ( th, หมู่บ้าน; , ) is the lowest administrative sub-division of Thailand. Usually translated as 'village' and sometimes as 'hamlet', they are a subdivision of a tambon (subdistrict). , there were 74,944 administrative mubans in Thailand. ''Tambon'' ( th, ตำบล, ) is a local governmental unit in Thailand. Vibhavadi Rangsit
Princess Vibhavadi Rangsit ( th, วิภาวดีรังสิต; ; 20 November 1920 – 16 February 1977), née Princess Vibhavadi Rajani ( th, วิภาวดี รัชนี; ) was a Thai writer and a member of the Thai royal family well known for her fiction writing and her developmental work in rural Thailand. She was killed by communist insurgents while on a routine visit to assist rural villagers in Surat Thani Province. Early life Princess Vibhavadi Rangsit was born on 20 November 1920. She was the eldest daughter of Rajani Chamcharas, Prince Bidyalongkorn and Princess Phonphimonphan Rajani (''née'' Princess Phimonphan Voravan). She had a sibling, Prince Bhisadej Rajani. King Amphoe
An amphoe (sometimes also ''amphur'', th, อำเภอ, )—usually translated as "district"—is the second level administrative subdivision of Thailand. Groups of ''amphoe'' or districts make up the provinces, and are analogous to counties. The chief district officer is ''Nai Amphoe'' (). ''Amphoe'' are divided into ''tambons'', ( th, ตำบล), or sub-districts. Altogether Thailand has 928 districts, including the 50 districts of Bangkok, which are called '' khet'' (เขต) since the Bangkok administrative reform of 1972. The number of districts in provinces varies, from only three in the smallest provinces, up to the 50 urban districts of Bangkok. Also the sizes and population of districts differ greatly. Kaeng Krung National Park
Kaeng Krung National Park ( th, แก่งกรุง) is a national park in southern Thailand, protecting 338,125 rai ~ of forests in the Phuket mountain range. It was declared a national park on 4 December 1991. The park is in northwest Surat Thani Province, covering area of the districts Tha Chana, Chaiya, Tha Chang, and Vibhavadi. The area encompasses two mountain chains, with the highest elevation being Khao Sung at 849 meters. The northern part drains via the Khlong Sa toward the Lang Suan River, while the south drains via the Khlong Yan to the Phum Duang River. The wildlife in the park includes elephants, bears, gaurs, tapirs, tigers, several monkey species, as well as many bird species. Khlong Yan Wildlife Sanctuary
Khlong Yan ( th, คลองยัน) is a wildlife sanctuary in southern Thailand, located in the west of Surat Thani Province. It is located between the Khao Sok and Kaeng Krung National Park within the hills of the Phuket mountain range. Phuket Mountain Range
The Phuket Range ( th, ทิวเขาภูเก็ต, ''Thio Khao Phuket'', ) is a subrange of the Tenasserim Hills in the Kra Isthmus, Thailand. Geography The Phuket chain is a continuation of the greater Tenasserim range, forming one of the southern sections of the central Indo-Malay cordillera, the mountain chain which runs from Tibet through all of the Malay peninsula extending southwards for over 200 km. The Nakhon Si Thammarat Range begins 60 km to the east of the southern part of the Phuket Range. Between the ranges there are isolated peaks rising from the lowlands, the highest of which is 1,350 m high Khao Phanom Bencha near Krabi. The highest elevation is Khao Langkha Tuek with an elevation of 1395 m. As the hills raise directly from the western coast there are no notable rivers west of the ridge.
