Alberto Aleandro Uderzo (; ; 25 April 1927 – 24 March 2020), better known as Albert Uderzo, was a French comic book artist and scriptwriter. He is best known as the co-creator and illustrator of the ''Astérix'' series in collaboration with René Goscinny. He also drew other comics such as ''Oumpah-pah'', again with Goscinny. Uderzo retired in September 2011. Early life Uderzo was born in Fismes in the Marne department of France on 25 April 1927 as the fourth child of Italian immigrants Silvio Uderzo (1888–1985) and his wife Iria Uderzo (born Crestini, 1897–1997). ''Asterix'' or ''The Adventures of Asterix'' (french: Astérix or , "Asterix the Gaul") is a ''bande dessinée'' comic book series about a village of indomitable Gaulish warriors who adventure around the world and fight the Roman Republic, with the aid of a magic potion, during the era of Julius Caesar, in an ahistorical telling of the time after the Gallic Wars. Marcel Uderzo
Marcel Uderzo (20 December 1933 – 24 January 2021) was a French comic book artist. He was the younger brother of fellow comic book artist Albert Uderzo. Biography Uderzo was born in Clichy-sous-Bois on 20 December 1933 to a family of Italian immigrants. In 1938, his family moved to the 11th arrondissement of Paris in an area of artisans. When he left school, Uderzo's father taught him the luthier trade. In 1964, his relationship with his father deteriorated and he took up comics. From 1964 to 1965, Uderzo taught himself how to create comics. He continued to make guitars in his father's workshop while learning to draw and make ink boards for '' Tanguy et Laverdure''. He continued his apprenticeship making ink boards for ''Asterix''. In a 2014 interview, he stated that his resemblance to the character Cacofonix was "striking". René Goscinny
René Goscinny (, ; 14 August 1926 – 5 November 1977) was a French comic editor and writer, who created the ''Astérix'' comic book series with illustrator Albert Uderzo. Raised largely in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he attended French schools, he lived for a time in the United States. There he met Belgian cartoonist Morris. After his return to France, they collaborated for more than 20 years on the comic series '' Lucky Luke'' (in what was considered the series' golden age). He wrote '' Iznogoud'' with Jean Tabary. ''Oumpah-pah le Peau-Rouge'' (''Ompa-pa the Redskin'') is a comics series created by comics artist Albert Uderzo and comics author René Goscinny, best known as the creators of Asterix. The series first appeared in the weekly '' Tintin'' magazine in 1958 though it remained serialised for a relatively short time, ending in 1962. Fismes () is a commune in the Marne department in the Grand Est region of north-eastern France. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Fismois'' or ''Fismoises'' The commune has been awarded three flowers in the '' Competition of cities and villages in Bloom''. Geography Fismes is located 25 km west by northwest of Reims and some 12 km east by southeast of Braine. Access is by National Highway N31 from Reims through the heart of the commune and the town and continuing west to Soissons.
