''Ultraelectromagneticpop!'' (stylized as ''ultraelectromagneticpop!'') is the debut studio album of the Filipino rock band, Eraserheads. It was released by BMG Records (Pilipinas) Inc. in July 1993. ''Ultraelectromagneticpop!'' spawned hit songs such as "Ligaya", "Toyang", and "Pare Ko". The album is often credited for revitalizing the alternative rock genre in the Philippines during the 1990s. Background Though ''Ultraelectromagneticpop!'' was their debut album, most of the songs were recycled from original compositions that were written since their college days in 1989. Hoping to have their songs published, the band recorded a demo tape in 1991 and shopped around record labels and radio stations, only to be rejected at every turn. A friend-professor, Robin Rivera, from their school, UP Diliman, helped them record an improved version of the demo tape which was named ''Pop U!'', a play on the invective "fuck you," in response to the people who turned them down. Eraserheads (sometimes stylized as ERASƎRHEADS or ƎRASƎRHƎADS) are a Filipino alternative rock band formed in 1989. With a line-up comprising Ely Buendia, Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro, and Raimund Marasigan, the band became one of the most influential and successful in the history of Filipino music. Pare Ko (English: "My Pal") is a song by the Eraserheads. It was included in their debut album, ''Ultraelectromagneticpop!''. It was the band's third hit single. The song was later adapted into a movie of the same title starring Claudine Barreto and Mark Anthony Fernandez. It was covered by APO Hiking Society and later Spongecola. Controversy The single and the album was nearly censored by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) due to the Tagalog profanity ''"‘Tang Ina"'' (Filipino slang whose rough English equivalent is ''son of a bitch'', shortened from 'Putang Ina'). Swear words were unheard of in Philippine music at the time, and as such their record label asked them to record a radio edit of the song; they retitled it "Walang Hiyang Pare Ko", where "Tang Ina" was changed to "'Lang Hiya". "Ligaya" (English: "''Joy''") is the first single by the Eraserheads from their debut album, ''Ultraelectromagneticpop!''. The single was able to make it to the Top Ten of 97.1 WLS-FM countdown. The band last performed the song in their second and final reunion concert dubbed as "The Final Set" on March 7, 2009. No music video was made for the song. Ely Eleandre Basiño Buendia (born November 2, 1970), popularly known as Ely Buendia, is a Filipino musician, singer, songwriter, author and film director who gained fame as the guitarist, lead vocalist and principal songwriter of the famed Filipino rock band, the Eraserheads and also the lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist of Pupil. ''Circus'' (stylized ''CiRcuS'') is the second studio album released by Filipino alternative rock group Eraserheads in 1994. Hits from ''Circus'' are "Alapaap", "Sembreak", "Kailan" (originally a musical number from the play ''Manhid'' by Auraeus Solito), " Magasin", and " With a Smile". It is also the last album of the band with singles released in the vinyl record format. The album was reissued by Sony-BMG Entertainment in 2006. This is the first album that uses an inverted letter E, a notable trademark of the band. The album cover was created by visual artist Mark Justiniani. The original artwork is now with the artist’s son. "Wating" is the theme song for the 1994 Filipino movie of the same name, starring Richard Gomez and Carmina Villaroel. Hector Avanceña Zabala (born November 13, 1971), popularly known as Buddy Zabala, is a Filipino musician and producer. He is currently the bassist of Filipino pop band Moonstar88 and indie band Cambio, and widely known as the bassist and backing vocalist of the alternative rock band, Eraserheads. Raimund Emmanuel Parcon Marasigan (born May 22, 1971) is a Filipino rock musician and record producer.
