Tomnatic
Tomnatic ( hu, Nagyősz; german: Triebswetter) is a commune in Timiș County, Romania. It is composed of a single village, Tomnatic. It was part of Lovrin commune until 2004, when it was split off. History Near Tomnatic took place the last battle between Ahtum, the leader of Romanians, Pechenegs and Bulgars in the rough territory of today's Banat, and the Hungarian invaders led by Chanadinus, a rebellious general of Ahtum, in 1003 or 1030 (the date of the battle is disputed). Tomnatic first appears in written history in 1000. In the Middle Ages, there was a settlement of Romanians and Serbs, Naghiuz. It was inhabited until the end of the Ottoman period, because Marsigli, in 1690–1700, mentions the ''Nagyeösz'' estate. With the reconquest of Banat from the Turks in 1716, the colonization of the region began. Lovrin
Lovrin (german: Lowring, formerly ''Lorandhausen''; hu, Lovrin, formerly ''Lóránthalma'') is a commune in Timiș County, Romania. It is composed of a single village, Lovrin. It also included three other villages – Gottlob, Tomnatic and Vizejdia – until 2004, when they were split off to form Gottlob and Tomnatic communes. The commune itself is a significant railway junction served by local railway lines radiating in five directions. It is an agro-industrial and urban center for the surrounding region. Until the early 1990s the majority of inhabitants were of German descent but emigration has significantly reduced their numbers. History Lovrin was documented in 1466 as ''Lóránthalma''. Later it was also known as ''Lóránt'' or ''Lórántfalva''. In 1529 it was looted by the Turks, which led to the refuge of the population for a while. Ajtony
Ajtony, Ahtum or Achtum ( hu, Ajtony, bg, Охтум, ro, Ahtum, sr, Ахтум) was an early-11th-century ruler in the territory now known as Banat in present Romania and Serbia. His primary source is the ''Long Life of Saint Gerard'', a 14th-century hagiography. Ajtony was a powerful ruler who owned many horses, cattle and sheep and was baptised according to the Orthodox rite in Vidin. He taxed salt which was transferred to King Stephen I of Hungary on the Mureș River. The king sent Csanád, Ajtony's former commander-in-chief, against him at the head of a large army. Csanád defeated and killed Ajtony, occupying his realm. In the territory, at least one county and a Roman Catholic diocese were established. Historians disagree on the year of Ajtony's defeat; it may have occurred in 1002, 1008 or between 1027 and 1030. Timiș County
Timiș () is a county ('' județ'') of western Romania on the border with Hungary and Serbia, in the historical region of Banat, with the county seat at Timișoara.
