Thelesperma
''Thelesperma'' is a genus of North American and South American plants in the cosmos tribe within the sunflower family. Greenthread is a common name for plants in this genus. Members of the genus are used by a number of the southwestern Native American peoples as an herbal tea; as such, it is sometimes called "Indian tea," "Native American tea," "Native tea," or the name is referenced to the local tribe where the tea was harvested such as "Apache tea," Pueblo tea," "Navajo tea," "Hopi tea," etc. '' T. megapotamicum'' contains luteolin. It also appears that many of the species contain a very similar chromatographic profile, and thus may contain very similar profiles of flavenoids. The genus is closely related to parts of ''Coreopsis'' and to certain North American ''Bidens'' species (including ''Bidens coronata'' and ''Bidens comosa''). ; Species * '' Thelesperma ambiguum'' - TX NM * '' Thelesperma burridgeanum'' - TX * ''Thelesperma filifolium'' - Coahuila, Nuevo León, ...

Thelesperma Megapotamicum
''Thelesperma megapotamicum'' is a perennial species of flowering plant in the aster family known by the common name wild tea and rayless greenthread. It is native to sections of the Americas, including the central United States, where it grows in many types of habitat. Description It is a perennial herb producing a slender, branching stem 30 to 60 centimeters tall or more. The leaves are narrow, mostly compound with linear or threadlike segments measuring a few centimeters long. The inflorescence bears several flower heads each in a cuplike involucre of phyllaries with purple-tinged, pointed lobes with white edges. The head contains many yellow or orange disc florets, and sometimes one or more yellow ray florets, although these may be absent. Human uses Native American groups such as the Hopi and Navajo use this plant to make herbal teas, as a medicinal remedy and a yellow dye. The Hopi name for this plant is . The plant can be boiled whole until the water turns a rusty color ...

Thelesperma Filifolium
''Thelesperma filifolium'', commonly known as stiff greenthread, or plains greenthread, is a species of flowering plant in the Aster (genus), aster family, Asteraceae. It is often found growing in shallow soils. It prefers Ruderal species, disturbed sites in dry, sandy or gravelly soil with a neutral to basic Soil pH, pH. Stiff greenthread adapts to various soil conditions, including loam, clay, caliche (mineral), caliche, and roadsides. It blooms between March and June and often into the fall. Distribution In Texas, stiff greenthread can be found growing along roadsides and on dry hills in the South Plains and Edwards Plateau regions. The herb grows over much of the plains and mountain states, reaching up to Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska and South Dakota. It grows prolifically on the Navajo people, Navajo, Hopi, and Pueblo lands, as well as throughout much of New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado. Description Having a taproot, it is extremely resistant to drought, but thrives in rain. Th ...

Hopi
The Hopi are a Native American ethnic group who primarily live on the Hopi Reservation in northeastern Arizona, United States. As of the 2010 census, there are 19,338 Hopi in the country. The Hopi Tribe is a sovereign nation within the United States and has government-to-government relations with the United States federal government. Particular villages retain autonomy under the Hopi Constitution and Bylaws. The Hopi language is one of 30 in the Uto-Aztecan language family. The majority of Hopi people are enrolled in the Hopi Tribe of Arizona but some are enrolled in the Colorado River Indian Tribes. The Hopi Reservation covers a land area of . The Hopi encountered Spaniards in the 16th century, and are historically referred to as Pueblo people, because they lived in villages (''pueblos'' in the Spanish language). The Hopi are thought to be descended from the Ancestral Puebloans ( Hopi: ''Hisatsinom''), who constructed large apartment-house complexes and had an advanced cu ...

Coreopsis
''Coreopsis'' () is a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae. Common names include calliopsis and tickseed, a name shared with various other plants. Description These plants range from in height. The flowers are usually yellow with a toothed tip, but may also be yellow-and-red bicolor. They have showy flower heads with involucral bracts in two distinct series of eight each, the outer being commonly connate at the base. The flat fruits are small and dry and look like insects. There are 75–80 species of ''Coreopsis'', all of which are native to North, Central, and South America. The name ''Coreopsis'' is derived from the Greek words κόρις (''koris''), meaning " bedbug", and ὄψις (''opsis''), meaning "view", referring to the shape of the achene. Taxonomy ''Coreopsis'' is a variable genus closely related to ''Bidens''. In fact, neither ''Coreopsis'' nor ''Bidens'', as defined in the 20th century, is strictly monophyletic. ''Coreopsis'' is best described ...

Coreopsideae
Coreopsideae is a tribe of flowering plants belonging to the Asteroideae subfamily. It includes widely cultivated genera such as ''Cosmos'' and ''Dahlia''. A similar group has been recognized since 1829, generally as part of the tribe Heliantheae ( Cassini, 1819). In the late 20th century, molecular studies caused a slightly redefined version of this group to be recognized as its own tribe, Coreopsideae. The larger version of Heliantheae was split into tribes including Bahieae, Chaenactideae, Coreopsideae, Helenieae and, finally, Heliantheae (''sensu stricto''). Within the tribe, the traditional definition of genera based on flower and fruit characters does not reflect evolutionary relationships as inferred through molecular phylogenetics. The tribe is characterized by shiny green bracts at the base of the flower head in two rows: an inner row of tightly spaced bracts and an outer row of a smaller number pointing downward. It includes five genera that use carbon fixation: '' Ch ...

Arkansas
Arkansas ( ) is a landlocked state in the South Central United States. It is bordered by Missouri to the north, Tennessee and Mississippi to the east, Louisiana to the south, and Texas and Oklahoma to the west. Its name is from the Osage language, a Dhegiha Siouan language, and referred to their relatives, the Quapaw people. The state's diverse geography ranges from the mountainous regions of the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains, which make up the U.S. Interior Highlands, to the densely forested land in the south known as the Arkansas Timberlands, to the eastern lowlands along the Mississippi River and the Arkansas Delta. Arkansas is the 29th largest by area and the 34th most populous state, with a population of just over 3 million at the 2020 census. The capital and most populous city is Little Rock, in the central part of the state, a hub for transportation, business, culture, and government. The northwestern corner of the state, including the Fayetteville–Springdale ...

Mississippi () is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States, bordered to the north by Tennessee; to the east by Alabama; to the south by the Gulf of Mexico; to the southwest by Louisiana; and to the northwest by Arkansas. Mississippi's western boundary is largely defined by the Mississippi River. Mississippi is the 32nd largest and 35th-most populous of the 50 U.S. states and has the lowest per-capita income in the United States. Jackson is both the state's capital and largest city. Greater Jackson is the state's most populous metropolitan area, with a population of 591,978 in 2020. On December 10, 1817, Mississippi became the 20th state admitted to the Union. By 1860, Mississippi was the nation's top cotton-producing state and slaves accounted for 55% of the state population.
