Typhoon Faxai
Typhoon Faxai, known in Japan as , was the first typhoon to strike the Kantō region since Mindulle in 2016, and the strongest typhoon to hit the region since Ma-on in 2004. It was also the worst to hit the region since Talas in 2011, until the region was hit by more destructive Typhoon Hagibis less than a month later. Forming as the fifteenth named storm of the 2019 Pacific typhoon season, the precursor to Faxai was first noted as a weak tropical depression to the east of the International Dateline on August 29. The depression then entered the West Pacific basin on August 30. After moving in a general westward direction, the system strengthened into a named tropical storm by September 5. Faxai then strengthened into the sixth typhoon of the season the next day. Two days later, Faxai reached its peak strength as a Category 4 typhoon just before making landfall in mainland Japan. Wake Island
Wake Island ( mh, Ānen Kio, translation=island of the kio flower; also known as Wake Atoll) is a coral atoll in the western Pacific Ocean in the northeastern area of the Micronesia subregion, east of Guam, west of Honolulu, southeast of Tokyo and north of Majuro. The island is an unorganized, unincorporated territory belonging to (but not a part of) the United States that is also claimed by the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Typhoon Oscar
Typhoon Oscar was a powerful typhoon that affected Japan and killed 8 people and left many other people missing. The seventeenth tropical cyclone and second super typhoon of the moderately active 1995 Pacific typhoon season, It formed as a tropical depression a few hundred miles east-northeast of Guam. The tropical depression strengthened to a tropical storm, giving it the name ''Oscar''. It then reached typhoon status on September 14, becoming a super typhoon later that same day. Oscar recurved northeastwards two days later, skirted past Honshū on 17 September and became extratropical on 18 September. Oscar affected Tokyo, where numerous buildings sustained severe damage from high winds and several major highways were shut down. At least 20 people were injured by flying debris in Japan. Tropical Cyclones In 2019
During 2019, tropical cyclones formed within seven different tropical cyclone basins, located within various parts of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. During the year, a total of 150 systems formed with 102 of these developing further and were named by the responsible warning centre. The strongest tropical cyclone of the year was Typhoon Halong, which was estimated to have a minimum barometric pressure of , Halong also has the highest wind-speed, with 1-minute sustained wind speed of . Similar to the previous year, 2019 was above average in terms of the number of storms. The most active basin in the year was the Western Pacific, which documented 29 named systems.
