Hudson Tuttle (October 4, 1836 – December 14, 1910) was American Spiritualism, Spiritualist author, publisher, and lecturer. He was constantly connected, as editor or contributor, with reform and spiritualistic journals. Hudson Tuttle was born in Berlin Heights, Ohio, October 4, 1836. He was self-taught. He met Emma Rood Tuttle, Emma Rood (1837–1916) after reading a publication of hers in a Cleveland periodical. They married in 1857, and settled on the Tuttle family farm in Berlin Heights (a farm Hudson's parents had bought in the early 1830s), where they engaged in agriculture and horse breeding. Molly Rose Tuttle (born January 14, 1993) is an American vocalist, songwriter, banjo player and guitarist, recording artist and teacher in the bluegrass tradition, noted for her flatpicking, clawhammer, and crosspicking guitar prowess. She has cited Laurie Lewis, Kathy Kallick, Alison Krauss and Hazel Dickens as role models. Merlin Devere Tuttle (born August 26, 1941) is an American ecologist, conservationist, writer and wildlife photographer who has specialized in bat ecology, behavior, and conservation. He is credited with protecting the Austin Congress Avenue Bridge bat colony from extermination. Tuttle is currently active as founder and executive director of Merlin Tuttle's Bat Conservation (MTBC) in Austin, Texas. He tattooed Janis Joplin, Cher, Jo Baker, Paul Stanley, Jeff Scranton, and many other American musicians, actors, and celebrities. Early life Tuttle was born in Chariton, Iowa on October 7, 1931 and grew up in Ukiah, California. He described his parents as "conservative Iowa farmers, living in California, but they really allowed me to have my own head." Lelia Judson Tuttle (May 12, 1878 – November 8, 1967) was an American educator and missionary in China. She was chair of the English literature department at McTyeire Institute in Shanghai from 1910 to 1926, and dean of women at Soochow University from 1926 until 1941. Julia DeForest Tuttle (née Sturtevant; January 22, 1849 – September 14, 1898) was an American businesswoman who owned the property upon which Miami, Florida, was built. For this reason, she is called the "Mother of Miami." She is the only woman to have founded what would become a major American city.
