Tubuca Coarctata
''Tubuca coarctata'' is a species of fiddler crab found in the western Pacific ocean, including Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea and Australia (in Queensland and the Northern Territory). The common name of these crabs is either the compressed fiddler crab, or the orange-clawed fiddler crab, (although this name is also used for Gelasimus vomeris). They are found on tidal mud flats adjacent mangroves and muddy tidal creek and river banks. These are medium sized fiddler crabs with a carapace of males around 21 mm across. The clawed limb of adult males is in general orange or light brown with the color continuing onto the top and bottom fingers of the claw and fading to white at the ends. Sources from Australia refer to adult males having a white spot at the back of the last walking leg. Fiddler Crab
The fiddler crab or calling crab may be any of more than one hundred species of semiterrestrial marine crabs in the family Ocypodidae, well known for their sexual dimorphism, sexually dimorphic claws; the males' major claw is much larger than the minor claw, while the females' claws are both the same size. A smaller number of ghost crab and mangrove crab species are also found in the family Ocypodidae. This entire group is composed of small crabs, the largest being slightly over two inches (5 cm) across. Fiddler crabs are found along sea beaches and brackish intertidal mud flats, lagoons, swamps, and various other types of brackish or salt-water wetlands. Like all crabs, fiddler crabs molting, shed their shells as they grow. If they have lost legs or claws during their present growth cycle, a new one will be present when they molt. Gelasimus Vomeris
''Gelasimus vomeris'' is a species of fiddler crab found in the southwest Pacific Ocean. In Australia, it is found in the east and north from Darwin to Sydney. It is commonly known as the two-toned fiddler crab, orange-clawed fiddler crab or Southern calling fiddler crab, however the common name orange-clawed fiddler crab is also used for the fiddler crab ''Tubuca coarctata''. Previous binomial names include ''Uca vomeris'' and ''Uca vocans vomeris''. Description The carapace is up to 30 mm across, black-brown with blue patches to varying extent. Adult males have an enlarged claw with a grey or pink upper finger, and orange lower finger and hand.
