The Trophée des Champions (, ) is a French association football trophy contested in an annual match between the champions of Ligue 1 and the winners of the Coupe de France. It is equivalent to the super cups found in many other countries. History The match, with its current name, was first played in 1995, but the format in French football has existed since 1949 when the 1948–49 first division champions, Stade de Reims, defeated the winners of the 1948–49 edition of the Coupe de France, RCF Paris, 4–3 at the Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir in Colombes. The match is co-organized by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) and the Union Syndicale des Journalistes Sportifs de France (UJSF). From 1955 to 1973, the French Football Federation (FFF) hosted a similar match known as the ''Challenge des champions''. 2023 Trophée Des Champions
The 2023 Trophée des Champions was the 28th edition of the French super cup. The match was contested by the 2022–23 Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain, and the 2022–23 Coupe de France winners, Toulouse. Paris Saint-Germain won the match 2–0 for their record twelfth Trophée des Champions title. Host selection On 23 March 2023, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) decided that the match would take place at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The fixture was scheduled for 5 August 2023. However, on 5 June 2023, LFP president Vincent Labrune confirmed that the match would not take place in Thailand, reportedly due to Thai organizer Fresh Air Festival backing out. Labrune stated that this was "a bad for a good", as it allowed for the match to be moved to a "more favorable date, nthe beginning of January". Stade Gerland
The Stade de Gerland (known for sponsorship reasons as Matmut Stadium de Gerland and otherwise known as Municipal de Gerland or Stade Gerland ) is a stadium in the city of Lyon, France, which serves as home to Top 14 rugby club Lyon OU. It has a seating capacity of 35,000. Situated in the Gerland quarter, it was used by French professional football club Olympique Lyonnais, who moved to the newly constructed Parc Olympique Lyonnais in 2016.
