Train Express Regional
The Train Express Regional (TER) is airport rail link in Senegal that connects Dakar with the Blaise Diagne International Airport. It was built by French companies Engie and Thales Group. The contract is valued at €2 billion. History Construction on the TER began in the third quarter of 2016 and is expected to be fully completed at the end of 2023. The line will be built in two stages, with the first covering 36 km from the city of Dakar to Diamniadio, while the second stage covering 19 km more to the airport. The first phase of the line, running the 13 stations from Dakar to Diamniadio, was inaugurated on 27 December 2021. Before opening, protests were held by some Dakar citizens who felt they had not been sufficiently compensated by the government after their homes and businesses were demolished during the line's construction. Dakar
Dakar ( ; ; wo, Ndakaaru) (from daqaar ''tamarind''), is the capital and largest city of Senegal. The city of Dakar proper has a population of 1,030,594, whereas the population of the Dakar metropolitan area is estimated at 3.94 million in 2021. The area around Dakar was settled in the 15th century. The Portuguese established a presence on the island of Gorée off the coast of Cap-Vert and used it as a base for the Atlantic slave trade. Thiaroye
Thiaroye (or Tiaroye) is the name of a historic town in Sénégal, situated in the suburbs of Dakar, on the southeast coast of the Cap-Vert peninsula, between Pikine and Rufisque. Since the administrative reform in 1996, Thiaroye has been divided into independent communes, Thiaroye-Gare, Thiaroye-sur-Mer and Thiaroye-Kao (or ''Djiddah Thiaroye Kao''), with Guinaw-Rail Nord, Guinaw-Rail Sud (both to the west), and Tivaouane-Diacksao (to the east) split off and separating Thiaroye-sur-Mer from the other two inland communes. Senegal's rail network consists of 906 km of railway at gauge, and 36 km of gauge. The metre-gauge network is part of the Dakar–Niger Railway which crosses the border to Mali. The railway is operated by Transrail, managed by the Belgian company Vecturis. The single standard gauge line is a commuter railway in Dakar, the Train Express Regional Dakar-AIBD, which opened in 2021. Bargny, Senegal
Bargny (also, Bargny-Gouddau and Bargny Gouddou) is a settlement in Senegal. It is located in a somewhat sheltered bay about 15 km to the east of the capital, Dakar. Environment The community has a number of severe environmental threats, including coastal erosion and contamination from economic projects and industries in the community. Industries Cement The town holds one of the largest cement factories in West Africa. Created in 1984, the factory creates toxic dust which exposes local residents to contamination. Transport Bargny is the site of a proposed deep water port for mineral exports, such as iron ore. The railway following the coast from Dakar heads inland from this point to Thiès. Rufisque ( ar, روفيسك; Wolof: Tëngeéj) is a city in the Dakar region of western Senegal, at the base of the Cap-Vert Peninsula. It has a population of 179,797 (2002 census). In the past it was an important port city in its own right, but is now a suburb of Dakar. Rufisque is also the capital of the department of the same name and lies east of Dakar, the capital of Senegal. Hann is a neighbourhood of Dakar, the capital of Senegal. It is located on the eastern side of the small south facing peninsula on which the old city of Dakar was built. Hann neighborhood sits along a crescent shaped beach called Hann Bay. Hann is part of the Hann Bel-Air commune d'arrondissement: a part of the municipal Dakar Department which covers the city of Dakar.
