The Trade Unions International of Miners was a trade union international affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions. History The union was founded at a Constituent Conference in Florence, Italy held July 16–19, 1949. Trade Union International
A global union federation (GUF) is an international federation of national trade unions organizing in specific industry sectors or occupational groups. Historically, such federations in the social democratic tradition described as international trade secretariats (ITS),. while those in the Christian democratic tradition described themselves as international trade federations. Equivalent sectoral bodies linked to the World Federation of Trade Unions described themselves as Trade Union Internationals. Many unions are members of one or more global union federations, relevant to the sectors where they have their members. Individual unions may also be affiliated to a national trade union centre, which in turn can be affiliated to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) or the WFTU. Trade Unions International Of Transport Workers
The Trade Union International of Transport Workers (TUI-TRANSPORT) is a sectoral federation of workers in the transport industry, affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions. It was formerly known as the Trade Unions International of Transport, Port and Fishery Workers. History The organizations roots goes back to 1949 when two TUI affiliates of the WFTU were created: the Trade Unions International of Seamen and Dockers which represented seamen, inland waterways workers, fishermen and port workers, and the Trade Unions International of Land and Air Transport Workers. In March 1953, these two merged into Trade Union International of Transport, Port and Fishery Workers. It kept the latter name until at least 1978, but adopted the current name by 1985. Jan Konieczny
Jan Konieczny (born 9 September 1932) is a Polish former trade unionist and politician. Born in Rawicz, Konieczny became a coal-miner and joined the Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR) in 1951. He also joined the Miners' Trade Union, and in 1963 was the leader of the union at the Zabrze mine. In the late 1960s, he studied at the Mining Technical School, following which he began operating a coal-cutter in the mine. From 1976 until 1985, he served in the Sejm, representing the PZPR. Konieczny also became the national president of the Miners' Trade Union. Stefan Ciołkowski
Stefan Ciołkowski (20 April 1908 – 7 June 1970) was a Polish trade unionist and communist activist. Born in Lublin, Ciołkowski became a miner and joined the Communist Party of Poland. In 1924, he emigrated to France, where he joined the French Communist Party (PCF). He returned to Poland in 1931, then went to work at the Souvret colliery in Belgium in 1937. There, he joined the Communist Party of Belgium (PCB), and formed a mutual aid association for Poles. On the outbreak of World War II, Ciołkowski returned to France, where he was active in the communist resistance. In October 1945, the PCF sent him to Belgium, where he served on the central committee of the PCB, with responsibility for organising the party among emigrant workers. However, at the start of 1946, he was expelled from the country, and returned to Poland. He joined the Polish Workers' Party, and was elected as its secretary in Szczecin. Victorin Duguet
Ferdinand-Victorin Duguet (28 July 1905 – 10 October 1989) was a French trade union leader. Born in Saint-Florent-sur-Auzonnet, Duguet followed in the family tradition of coal mining. He worked in the mines at Trélys-Le Martinet from 1918 until 1929, excepting one years' military service. He joined the National Federation of Miners (FNTSS), an affiliate of the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) in 1921, then the following year, was part of the split which formed the National Federation of United Miners, an affiliate of the United General Confederation of Labour (CGTU). Duguet joined the French Communist Party (PCF) in 1928, and the following year, became the leader of the CGTU miners' union in the Gard. Henri Turrel
Henri Albert Turrel (10 July 1910 – 20 August 1962) was a French trade unionist and communist activist. Born in Susville, Turrel's father died in a mine accident when Henri was just six years old. He left school at the age of twelve, to work on a farm, then at sixteen began working at the mine in La Mure. Turrel joined the Communist Youth along with some other miners, and they built up a union branch affiliated to United National Federation of Miners, part of the United General Confederation of Labour (CGTU). In 1935, he stood for the French Communist Party in the municipal elections in Susville, and was elected, but disqualified because he was not yet 25 years old. In 1936, the CGTU merged into the General Confederation of Labour (CGT), and Turrel was elected to the executive of its National Federation of Miners (FNTSS).
