Tour La Provence
The Tour de la Provence is an early-season bicycle stage race in the Provence region of France. It is organized by southern French newspaper La Provence, which serves as the race's title sponsor for its first three years. It is held in February, as a 2.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour calendar. The race will become part of the new UCI ProSeries in 2020. ''La Provence'' has entrusted the organization of the event to Serge Pascal, who also organizes the Tour du Haut Var. The inaugural edition of 2016 was won by Thomas Voeckler. History Organizers intend to build on the tradition of the former Tour du Vaucluse and the Tour du Sud-Est, two races in the same region that have disappeared over time. The event is part of a series of cycling stage races being held in the south of France in February, following the Étoile de Bessèges, La Méditerranéenne and the Tour du Haut Var. Cyclingnews.com is a website providing cycling news and race result owned by Future. History In 1995 Australian Bill Mitchell, a keen cyclist and professor of economics at the University of Newcastle, created the website titled "Bill’s Cycling Racing Results and News" after finding there was a need for fast-breaking news and race results in English-speaking countries. In 1999 Sydney-based publishing company Knapp Communications purchased the website from Mitchell, and in July 2007 they sold it to British publisher Future plc for £2.2m. In July 2014 it was bought by Immediate Media Company, along with the print-only ''Procycling'' magazine. In February 2019, Immediate Media sold its cycling titles back to Future. The 2022 Tour de la Provence was a road bicycle racing, road cycling stage race that took place between 10 and 13 February 2022 in the French Regions of France, region of Provence. The race was rated as a category UCI race classifications, 2.Pro event on the 2022 UCI ProSeries calendar, and was the seventh edition of the Tour de la Provence. The 2017 Tour La Provence was a road cycling stage race that took place between 21 and 23 February 2017. The race was rated as a 2.1 event as part of the 2017 UCI Europe Tour, and was the second edition of the Tour La Provence.
