Tornado Outbreak Of January 12, 2023
An early-season tornado outbreak impacted the Southeastern United States on January 12, 2023. The result of a mid-level Trough (meteorology), trough moving through, moisture and the presence of a strong jet stream, low-level jet aided in the development of numerous severe and tornadic thunderstorms. Early in the outbreak, a strong EF2 tornado caused considerable damage in Winston County, Alabama, while another EF2 tornado struck just south of Greensboro, Alabama, Greensboro. A destructive high-end EF2 tornado struck Selma, Alabama, Selma, causing widespread damage and two injuries. The same storm produced a long-lived EF3 tornado that moved through or near Kingston, Autauga County, Alabama, Old Kingston, Titus, Alabama, Titus, Equality, Alabama, Equality, and Lake Martin, resulting in seven fatalities and several injuries in Autauga County alone. Griffin, Georgia
Griffin is a city in and the county seat of Spalding County, Georgia. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 23,478. Griffin was founded in 1840 and named for landowner Col. Lewis Lawrence Griffin. Griffin Technical College was located in Griffin from 1963 and a branch of Southern Crescent Technical College is in Griffin. Five Points, Alabama
Five Points is a town in Chambers County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 114. History In 1885, Five Points was named because of the five roads converging at a single point. Before this, the post office was known as "Lystra". The town was incorporated in 1915, making it Chambers County's oldest incorporated town. The Baptist Church was the first to take the name of "Five Points" on its building in 1929. Five Points holds the distinction of being the first town of its size to receive electricity from Alabama Power in 1925.
