Tor Wahlman
Lieutenant General Tor Carl Nicolaus Wahlman (10 August 1878 – 7 August 1954) was a senior officer in the Swedish Coastal Artillery. He served as commanding officer of the Swedish Coastal Artillery from 1929 to 1941. Early life Wahlman was born on 10 August 1878 in Stockholm, Sweden, the son of Anders Wahlman, a wholesaler, and his wife Louise Klöfverskjöld. Career Wahlman was commissioned as an officer in 1899 and was assigned to Vaxholm Artillery Corps with the rank of ''underlöjtnant''. he was promoted to lieutenant in newly created Swedish Coastal Artillery in 1901. As a lieutenant, he served as a regimental adjutant in Vaxholm Coastal Artillery Regiment. He was promoted to captain in 1907 and as captain, he served, among other things, in the Royal Swedish Naval Materiel Administration. Major (Maj) ( sv, Major, Mj) is a field grade military officer rank in the Swedish Armed Forces, above the rank of captain and below the rank of lieutenant colonel. It is equivalent to the naval rank of lieutenant commander in the Swedish Navy. The Royal Order of Vasa () is a Swedish order of chivalry, awarded to citizens of Sweden for service to state and society especially in the fields of agriculture, mining and commerce. It was instituted on 29 May 1772 by King Gustav III. It was unrestricted by birth or education and could therefore be awarded to anyone (as opposed to the Order of the Polar Star, which was intended as a reward for the learned professions). It was the most junior of all the Swedish orders. It was often awarded to Norwegian subjects of the dual monarchy until Oscar I founded the Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 1847. Since 1974 the order is no longer conferred: officially it has been declared as "dormant", along with the Order of the Sword. The Royal Order of the Polar Star (Swedish: ''Kungliga Nordstjärneorden'') is a Swedish order of chivalry created by King Frederick I on 23 February 1748, together with the Order of the Sword and the Order of the Seraphim. The Order of the Polar Star was until 1975 intended as a reward for Swedish and foreign "civic merits, for devotion to duty, for science, literary, learned and useful works and for new and beneficial institutions".
