Tom Hartley (cricketer)
Tom William Hartley (born 3 May 1999) is an English cricketer who plays for Lancashire and the England national team. In 2024, on his Test Cricket debut against India he took 9 wickets. Domestic career He made his first-class debut on 1 August 2020, for Lancashire in the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy. He made his Twenty20 debut on 27 August 2020, for Lancashire in the 2020 t20 Blast. In April 2022, he was bought by the Manchester Originals for the 2022 season of The Hundred. He bowled the first ever delivery in the history of the men’s Hundred in the first edition of the tournament in 2021. International career He made his ODI debut for England against Ireland in September 2023. Hartley was selected to play for England in their five match test series against India in January 2024. The Hundred is a professional franchise 100-ball cricket tournament involving eight men's and eight women's teams located in major cities across England and Wales. The tournament is run by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and took place for the first time in July and August 2021. The format was invented with the expectation that each match lasts around two-and-a-half hours. The BBC showed free-to-air broadcasts of the competition, while all of the women's matches and some of the men's matches were available to stream for free on Sky Sports' YouTube channel. Bill Hartley (athlete)
William John Hartley (born 27 June 1950) is an English former athlete. Athletics career Hartley was raised in Lydiate, Lancashire (now Merseyside) on the outskirts of Liverpool where his family ran a market garden. He began his athletic career at age 13 as a high jumper. By age 18 he held the Under-19 record for 400m hurdles (52.9 seconds). Following success in national and international competition, Hartley won a silver medal representing England at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand and then a gold medal at the European Championships in Rome in the 400m relay. He also represented England in the 400 metres hurdles event, at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He was a member of the winning Europa Cup 4 × 400 m relay team, along with Alan Pascoe, David Jenkins and Jim Aukett. Jim Laker
James Charles Laker (9 February 1922 – 23 April 1986) was an English professional cricketer who played for Surrey County Cricket Club from 1946 to 1959 and represented England in 46 Test matches. He was born in Shipley, West Riding of Yorkshire, and died in Wimbledon, London. A right-arm off break bowler, Laker is generally regarded as one of the greatest spin bowlers in cricket history. In 1956, he achieved a still-unequalled world record when he took nineteen (of a maximum twenty) wickets in a Test match at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester, enabling England to defeat Australia in what has become known as "Laker's Match". The England cricket team toured the West Indies in December 2023 to play three One Day International (ODI) and five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The England cricket team toured India from January to March 2024 to play five Test matches. The Test series formed part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship. The teams competed for the Anthony de Mello Trophy. The series overlapped with the first-class series between India A and England Lions, which took place in January and February 2024.
