Tirukkural remains one of the most widely translated non-religious works in the world. As of 2014, there were at least 57 versions available in the English language alone. English, thus, continues to remain the language with most number of translations available of the Kural text. List of translations Below is a list of English translations of the Tirukkural till date: History of English translations Following the translation of the Kural text into Latin by Constantius Joseph Beschi in 1730, Nathaniel Edward Kindersley attempted the first ever English translation of the Kural text in 1794, translating select couplets in verse. Francis Whyte Ellis attempted the second English translation, who translated only 120 of the 1330 couplets of the Kural text—69 in verse and 51 in prose. Tiruchirappalli () ( formerly Trichinopoly in English), also called Tiruchi or Trichy, is a major tier II city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of Tiruchirappalli district. The city is credited with being the best livable city and the cleanest city of Tamil Nadu, as well as the fifth safest city for women in India. Kasturi Srinivasan
Kasturi Srinivasan (7 August 1887 – 21 June 1959) was an Indian journalist and businessman. He was the eldest son of S. Kasturi Ranga Iyengar. Biography Srinivasan was born to well-known lawyer and journalist, S. Kasturi Ranga Iyengar, in August 1887. He graduated from the Presidency College, Madras and joined ''The Hindu'', the newspaper owned by his family, at an early age. He became the Managing Director of ''The Hindu'' on the death of Kasturi Ranga Iyengar in 1923 with S. Rangaswami Iyengar as Chief Editor. In February 1934, Srinivasan took over as Chief Editor. He led ''The Hindu'' until his death on 21 June 1959. Srinivasan was a founder-Chairman of the Press Trust of India and was awarded the Padma Bhushan in January 1956. Shuddhananda Bharati
Kavi Yogi Maharishi Dr. Shuddhananda Bharati (11 May 1897 – 7 March 1990) was an Indian philosopher and poet. His teachings are focused mainly on the search for God in Self, through the Sama Yoga practice he created. Biography Bharati was born in Sivaganga in South India, and attained Jeeva Samadhi in nearby Sholapuram. He spent 25 years in silence in Pondicherry from 1925 to 1950, in the Ashram of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother Mirra Alfassa. From the early 1950s to the 1970s, he lived beside the IIT near Adyar, Chennai. Bharati always lived alone, without an Ashram. He founded Shuddhananda Bharati Desiya Vidyalayam High School in 1979. Several of Bharati's disciples contributed to the construction of the main building of the school at Sholapuram in 1992. Udumalai, also known as Udumalaipettai and Udumalpet (), is a town in Tiruppur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Udumalaipettai is located 535 km (332 mi) south west from the state capital, Chennai and 72 km (45 mi) away from Coimbatore, the second largest city in the state. It is famous for spinning mills. Kumbakonam (formerly spelt as Coombaconum or Combaconum) or Kudanthai is a city municipal corporation in the Thanjavur district in the States of India, Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
