Thunder Squad
Thunder Squad () is a special services unit of the National Police Agency in Taiwan, a highly trained SWAT unit established in 1985 to conduct high-risk arrests and other dangerous law enforcement duties. This 200 man group is organized into small four-man elements, three of which make up an operating group. Thunder Squad is also the name given to the SWAT tactical units of the county level police departments in the ROC (Taiwan). They are not to be confused with Taiwan’s NPA SOG who have similar uniforms but are completely different organisations; Thunder Squad being local where as the NPA SOG are on a national level. The National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior (NPA; ) is an agency under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of China (Taiwan) which oversees all police forces on a national level. The National Police Agency is headquartered in Taipei City. Police Organization & Structure Hierarchy Most actual law enforcement and day-to-day policing duties are delegated to local police departments on a city and county level which answer to the NPA but are considered agencies of their local government. SWAT
In the United States, a SWAT team (special weapons and tactics, originally special weapons assault team) is a police tactical unit that uses specialized or military equipment and tactics. Although they were first created in the 1960s to handle riot control or violent confrontations with criminals, the number and usage of SWAT teams increased in the 1980s and 1990s during the War on Drugs and later in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. In the United States by 2005, SWAT teams were deployed 50,000 times every year, almost 80% of the time to serve search warrants, most often for narcotics. The Han Kuang Exercise () is the annual military exercise of the Republic of China Armed Forces in Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu for combat readiness in the event of an attack from the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China. Airborne Special Service Company
The Airborne Special Service Company (ASSC; ), alternatively known as the Liang Shan Special Operations Company (), is an elite special forces unit belonging to the Republic of China Army (Taiwan Army). The ASSC is the most elite unit in Taiwan, they are reportedly based in Taiwan Pingtung County and tasked with carrying out special operations, including decapitation strikes in the event of a war. Amphibious Reconnaissance And Patrol Unit
The Amphibious Reconnaissance and Patrol Unit (ARP) () is an elite special operations component of the Republic of China Marine Corps. Overview ARP members are known as frogmen and have a similar mission set to the United States Navy SEALs. The entire ROC Marine Corps is considered an elite force, and the ARP is the most elite unit within the Marines. The ARP operates both reconnaissance and underwater demolition teams. Republic of China Military Police Special Services Company (MPSSC; ; Code-named: ''Night Hawks'') is a unit of the military police of the Republic of China (Taiwan). This unit is stationed at Wugu, Taipei. Little is known about this unit, since informations regarding it are classified by the Ministry of National Defense. It was formed in 1978.
