''The Conscious Seed of Light'' is the debut studio album by American technical death metal band Rivers of Nihil. The album was released on October 15, 2013 via Metal Blade Records. It is the first album in the band's tetralogy based around the four seasons; it represents spring. Background and promotion On December 10, 2012, Metal Blade Records announced that they'd signed ''Rivers of Nihil'' to a record deal, and released a demo for the song "Rain Eater". Rivers of Nihil is an American technical death metal band from Reading, Pennsylvania. They are currently signed to Metal Blade Records. To date the band has released two EPs and four studio albums. Their most recent release is 2021's '' The Work''. Their 2018 album ''Where Owls Know My Name'' debuted at number 61 on the ''Billboard'' 200, selling 2,750 copies in its first week. History Rivers of Nihil was formed in 2009. Spring, also known as springtime, is one of the four temperate seasons, succeeding winter and preceding summer. Daniel Seagrave (born 1970) is a British artist, who created many record covers for death metal bands especially in the early 1990s. He lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He grew up in Ravenshead, near Nottingham. Seagrave's works are typically highly detailed. Seagrave is a self-taught painter. He also works on mural designs and sells his art as posters. Hate Eternal is a death metal band from St. Petersburg, Florida. The band currently consists of founding guitarist/vocalist Erik Rutan and bassist J. J. Hrubovcak. Erik Rutan
Erik Rutan (born June 10, 1971) is an American heavy metal musician and producer from New Jersey. He is the guitarist and lead vocalist of death metal band Hate Eternal and lead guitarist for Cannibal Corpse, who he fully joined in 2021 after acting as a fill-in guitarist during their 2019 tour. Rutan has also spent time with Morbid Angel (three different stints) and Ripping Corpse. When not performing, Rutan operates his own recording studio in Florida called Mana Recording Studios. Recording Rutan started his metal career with Ripping Corpse, recording one album titled '' Dreaming with the Dead'' released in 1991. Around 1995, he left to join Morbid Angel, recording ''Domination'' (1995) before leaving in 1996 to found his own band, Hate Eternal, releasing their first album '' Conquering the Throne'' in 1999. A tetralogy (from Greek τετρα- ''tetra-'', "four" and -λογία ''-logia'', "discourse") is a compound work that is made up of four distinct works. The name comes from the Attic theater, in which a tetralogy was a group of three tragedies followed by a satyr play, all by one author, to be played in one sitting at the Dionysia as part of a competition. Technical death metal (also referred to as tech-death) is a musical subgenre of death metal that began and developed in the early- to mid-1990s, with particular focus on challenging, demanding instrumental skill and complex songwriting. Technical experimentation in death metal began in the late 1980s and early 1990s by four bands that are often grouped together as "technical death metal's Big Four" – Death, Pestilence, Atheist, and Cynic – as well as Nocturnus; all but Pestilence being part of the Florida death metal scene.
