Thadal
Thadal is a cooling and energizing drink, used by the pehlwan of the Sindh province in Pakistan. The drink keep the wrestlers liver cool during fights and exercises. The drink is prepared using ground char magaz, dry fruits, pepper and almonds. The refresher is said to be so cooling that it can give you a cold, so a pinch of black pepper is added. Recipe Ingredients: * 1.5 liter Water * 300 g Sugar * 250 ml Milk * 20 pc of Almonds [Badam] * Seeds of Tarbooz [watermelon] 1 tspn * Kharbooza [Cantaloupes] 1 tspn * 1/2 Table Spoon of Saunf [Fennel] * 1/2 Spoon Ilaychi Powder [cardamom] * 1/2 Spoon Khashkhas [poppy seeds] * 10 Kali Mirch [black pepper] * 50 g Gulqand Gulkand or 20 dried/fresh Rose Petals Method: Soak the sugar in about 0.5 liters of water. Pehlwan
Pehlwani, (पहलवानी) also known as Kushti, is a form of wrestling contested in South Asia. It was developed in the Mughal Empire by combining Persian Pahlevani and zoorkhaneh rituals, Koshti pahlevani with influences from native Indian Malla-yuddha. The words ''pehlwani'' and ''kushti'' derive from the Persian language, Persian terms ''pahlavani'' (heroic) and ''koshti'' (wrestling, lit. killing) respectively, meaning Heroic wrestling. A practitioner of this sport is referred to as a ''pehlwan'' (Persian word for ''hero'') while teachers are known as ustad (Persian word for ''teacher'' or ''master''). Gulkand
Gulkand (also written gulqand or gulkhand) is a sweet preserve of rose petals originating in the Indian subcontinent. The term is derived from Persian; ''gul'' (rose) and ''qand'' (sugar/sweet). Pehlivan or Pahlevan derives from Iranian language word meaning ''noble'', ''wrestler'', ''hero'' or ''champion'' and it is a loan word in many Asiatic languages as well as middle eastern languages including Turkey, Turkish surname originally given to wrestlers. The name of Feyli (Pehli) Kurdistan, Kurds is also deriving from the same root word. The word consist of two Iranic (Aryen) word "pehli" or "pahli" and "van, wan".
