Team Australia (roller Derby)
Team Australia represents Australia in women's international roller derby, under the Women's Flat Track Derby Association, WFTDA rule set, in play such as at the Roller Derby World Cup. The team was first formed to compete at the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup, 2011 World Cup in Toronto, and finished the tournament in fourth place, beating Team Sweden (roller derby), Team Sweden by 126 points 80 in their quarterfinal, but losing to USA Roller Derby, Team USA 532 to 4 in the semifinal, and to Team England (roller derby), Team England 203 to 85 in the third-place playoff. Before the event, coach Thigh-dal Wave stated that the team aimed to play against the United States and to beat Team New Zealand (roller derby), Team New Zealand. Team Australia finished in third place at the 2014 Roller Derby World Cup in Dallas, Texas, Dallas, and competed in the 2018 World Cup in Manchester, where they were defeated in the finals by USA Roller Derby. The 2011 Roller Derby World Cup was an international women's roller derby tournament organized by ''Blood & Thunder'' magazine. Teams of amateur skaters from around the world were fielded to compete for their respective nations. The inaugural 2011 Roller Derby World Cup was hosted by Toronto Roller Derby, and was held December 1 through 4, 2011, at Supply Depot (Toronto), The Bunker at Downsview Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was won by Team USA (roller derby), Team USA, who beat Team Canada (roller derby), Team Canada by a score of 336 points to 33 in the final. Live online coverage of the entire event was broadcast on the Derby News Network. Participating countries The 2011 Roller Derby World Cup had thirteen countries taking part. Tui Lyon
Tui Lyon is an Australian roller derby player. Born in Tallangatta in Victoria, Australia, Lyon began skating with the Victorian Roller Derby League in Melbourne in 2008. In 2010, she moved to Cardiff in Wales, where she played for the Tiger Bay Brawlers, then she returned to Victoria in 2012. At the 2014 Roller Derby World Cup, Lyon played for Team Australia. She also became a coach of the Australian men's roller derby team, the Wizards of Aus, and was their bench coach at the 2016 Men's Roller Derby World Cup. While Victoria played roller derby at the highest level, Lyon found the expense of regularly travelling to the United States to compete to be too high. Paradise City Roller Derby
Paradise City Roller Derby was a women's flat track roller derby league based in Burleigh, Queensland, Australia. Founded in 2013, the league consisted of two teams, which competed against teams from other leagues, and was a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). 2017 was the league's last active year. The league was founded in 2013, spending its first years training at the Police Citizens Youth Club in Nerang, before being asked to relocate for fear of damaging its floors from skating on it. Paradise City hosted the Royal Rumble tournament at Carrara Indoor Stadium, and was considered a favourite after defeating Sydney Roller Derby League the week before. Northern Brisbane Rollers
The Northern Brisbane Rollers is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Queensland, Australia. Founded in 2008, the league is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History The league was founded in 2008, and initially represented the Albany Creek area. Its first bout was held in April 2009, with early games attracting crowds of 500 to 600 people. By early 2010, the league moved many bouts to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, in order to accommodate its growing number of supporters. Charm City Roller Derby (CCRD), is a flat track roller derby league in Baltimore, Maryland. Founded in 2005, Charm City is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and league structure The league was established in 2005 as Charm City Roller Girls, when Caroline Donaghy returned to Baltimore from Houston, where she had skated with the Space City Roller Girls, and began promoting the intention to start a league in Baltimore. The first public Charm City game was held in 2006 at Skateland in Putty Hill. Upon the league's formation, it comprised four teams: the Junkyard Dolls, the Mobtown Mods, the Night Terrors and the Speed Regime. The Brisbane City Rollers (BCR) is a roller derby league based in Queensland, Australia. It consists of 3 women's intraleague teams, two women's travel teams and 1 men's travel team, which play against teams from other leagues. Convict City Roller Derby League (CCR) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Hobart, Tasmania. It was Tasmania's second league at its formation in 2009. Convict City is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Convict City's first public bout, "Inaugural Brawl", came courtesy of Van Diemen Rollers in late 2010, where they were soundly defeated by the Diemens. Boston Roller Derby, (BRD), is a flat-track roller derby league based in Boston, Massachusetts. The league was founded as Boston Derby Dames in May 2005, and is a founding member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). The league's all-star team, the Boston Massacre, was one of the top 25 WFTDA Division 1 teams in the world through most of the duration of the divisional ranking system introduced in early 2013, and as of December 31, 2015, the Massacre was ranked at 21. Perth Roller Derby
Perth Roller Derby (PRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Perth, Western Australia. Founded in 2008, the league is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History The league was formed in June 2008, and began bouting in mid-2009. By the end of 2010, it was selling out its 700-seat venue.
