Northern Brisbane Rollers
The Northern Brisbane Rollers is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Queensland, Australia. Founded in 2008, the league is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History The league was founded in 2008, and initially represented the Albany Creek area. Its first bout was held in April 2009, with early games attracting crowds of 500 to 600 people. By early 2010, the league moved many bouts to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, in order to accommodate its growing number of supporters. This move proved successful and, by August, its bout against Gold Coast was expected to attract 5,000 fans. Northern Brisbane has a longstanding rivalry with local opponents the Sun State Roller Girls, although Sun State have had the upper hand in contests. Great Southern Slam
The Great Southern Slam (TGSS) is the largest competitive roller derby event in the Southern Hemisphere, contested by teams from New Zealand and Australia. It is held bi-annually in Adelaide in South Australia. TGSS was created and continues to be both hosted and run by volunteers from Adelaide Roller Derby. WFTDA Championships
The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues. The Championships are organised by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). They originated in 2006 as the National WFTDA Championship. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Apprentice is the program affiliate of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). In operation from 2009 until early 2019, the Apprentice Program served to onboard new member leagues into the WFTDA. In February 2019, the WFTDA announced it was retiring the program, to be replaced with a new "New Member Program" in the near future.
