Tarzino (foaled 29 September 2012) is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse and active sire bred in New Zealand and trained and Australia. He won the Victoria Derby and Rosehill Guineas, both Group One races. He has won over one and a half million dollars. Racing Career Tarzino first raced at Pakenham on 5 July 2015, finishing 3rd and winning $1400. After a trial, Tarzino had his first win on 27 August 2015, coming from 5th at the 400m mark to win by a head. Three weeks later, Tarzino stepped up to 1600 metres at Caulfield, coming from last for a "huge win". On 10 October 2015, Tarzino contested the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas. Finishing 7th of 16, it was described as a, "huge run from this big long-strider threading through the field from well back." Challenge Stakes (New Zealand)
The Tarzino Trophy also known as the Challenge Stakes is a Thoroughbred horse race run at Hastings Racecourse in Hawke's Bay and is New Zealand's first Group One race of the season. It is run over a distance of 1400m in September. The race is the first of the Hawkes Bay Triple Crown events and is followed by: * the 1600m Arrowfield Stud Plate in late September, and * the 2040m Livamol Classic in October. Palentino (foaled 18 October 2012) is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse and active sire trained and bred in Australia. He won the Australian Guineas and Makybe Diva Stakes, both Group One races. He won over 1.3 million dollars. Career Bred at Macleay Thoroughbred Stud in Tasmania, by Geoff and Jenny Watson, Palentino was sold as a yearling for $85,000. He had his first race at Ballarat on 30 September 2015, finishing 2nd by a head and winning $3910. A fortnight later, he had his first win at Stawell. On 7 November 2015, Palentino contested a listed race for the first time, winning by over a length at Flemington. Jockey Michelle Payne, who had recently won the Melbourne Cup, said, "Darren sent him to the beach and I didn't know what to expect today. The Victoria Derby, also known as the Penfolds Victoria Derby, is a Victoria Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds held under Set Weights conditions over a distance of 2,500 metres at Flemington Racecourse, in Melbourne, Australia scheduled annually on the first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Montjeu
Montjeu (4 April 1996 – 29 March 2012) was an Irish-bred, French-trained thoroughbred horse racing racehorse and sire. In a racing career which lasted from September 1998 to November 2000, he ran sixteen times and won eleven races, including six at Group 1. After winning twice as a juvenile, he was the outstanding European racehorse of 1999, winning the Prix du Jockey Club, the Irish Derby and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Four more victories in 2000 included the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. He was then retired to stud where he proved to be an outstanding sire of winners. He died on 29 March 2012 at age 16 at Coolmore Stud from complications related to sepsis. The South Australian Derby is a South Australian Jockey Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds, at set weights, run over a distance of 2,500 metres at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide, Australia during the SAJC Autumn Carnival. History The inaugural running of the race was on 5 January 1860 at Thebarton Racecourse which is located today in Mile End. The race was called The Thebarton Derby and had stakes of 100 sovereigns with an additional sweep of 10 sovereigns with a forfeit of 2 sovereigns.
