Star Awards 2016 (also SA2016, Chinese: 红星大奖2016) is a double television award ceremony which is held in Singapore. It is part of the annual Star Awards organised by Mediacorp for free-to-air channels Channels 8 and U. This was the first ''Star Awards'' ceremony to be held on the new campus at Stars Avenue after its relocation happened in December 2015; for the first time since 2009, the technical awards were not broadcast on television. The nominations were announced were announced on 1 February 2016 and the Most Favorite Artistes on 3 March 2016 at Mandarin Orchard Singapore, with the results announced during the ceremonies on 17 and 24 April 2016; for the first time in the ceremony's history, both shows placed emphasis for variety and drama programs, and the Top 10 Most Favorite Artists were separately awarded, respectively. Star Awards
The Star Awards (Chinese: 红星大奖) are awards for artistic and technical merit in the media organisation Mediacorp of Singapore where Mediacorp recognises entertainers under their employment for outstanding performances of the year. The awards are given annually in a ceremony. The various category winners are awarded a trophy, with initial designs featuring various star shapes. The star was subsequently removed and the trophy is designed as a S shaped column, depicting the star. History The 1st Star Awards presentation was held on 26 February 1994, took place at the Caldecott Broadcast Centre, MediaCorp TV Theatre with an audience of about 500 people. There have no other pre-show and post-awards ceremony held in that year. ''Super Senior'' (Chinese: 长辈甜心) is a Singaporean family drama produced and telecast on MediaCorp Channel 8. The show aired at 9 pm on weekdays and had a repeat telecast at 8 am the following day. The drama began production in February 2015 and made its run from 18 June to 15 July 2015. It is partly sponsored by the Media Development Authority of Singapore. ''Tiger Mum'' (Chinese: 虎妈来了) is a Singaporean family drama produced and telecast on MediaCorp Channel 8. The drama began production in November 2014. The series ran from 9 April to 6 May 2015. The show aired at 9pm on weekdays and had a repeat telecast at 8am the following day. It had a repeat in 2018 telecast at 4.30pm to 6.30pm on weekends after succeeding ''Crescendo'' and Tiger Mum series repeated at 12pm on Tuesday to Saturday on 22 March 2022. This is the second drama appearance of veteran actress Huang Biren since her return to the entertainment industry after a seven-year hiatus. ''Star Awards 2003'' was an awards ceremony part of the annual Star Awards held by MediaCorp Channel 8 on 7 December 2003. The tenth installment of ''Star Awards'' were hosted by Timothy Chao for the sixth consecutive ceremony, along with current affairs hostess and nominee for the Best News and Current Affairs Presenter Chun Guek Lay. The ceremony gave away 27 awards, six of which were awarded in the Backstage Ceremony and the rest on the main ceremony. The Backstage Ceremony does not have presenters giving out the awards. ''GeTai Challenge 2015'' () is the first season of Singaporean singing reality competition ''GeTai Challenge'' that premiered on 25 May 2015 and run for 13 weeks, with the finals taped at Resorts World Sentosa on 13 August 2015 and ended on 17 August 2015. The competition features Getai singers from all across Singapore competing out for the title of ''GeTai Challenge'' winner. The show was hosted by Pornsak and Wang Weiliang, and guest host Shane Pow on two performance shows at Yishun. On 16 August 2015, MediaCorp actor Desmond Ng was named the winner of ''GeTai Challenge'' and won a $20,000 cash award, with Love 97.2FM radio personality and actor Marcus Chin as runner-up and won $10,000. Mandarin Orchard Singapore
The Hilton Singapore Orchard is a 1080-room five-star hotel located at 333 Orchard Road in Singapore. History The hotel opened in 1971 as The Mandarin Singapore, occupying a single 36-storey block facing Orchard Road. Designed by Cyrus Casper Francis, it had 700 rooms. Atop the hotel was the ''Top of the 'M' '', the highest revolving restaurant in Singapore. It has since been converted to a club lounge, open to guests who belong to the hotel chain's loyalty program. The hotel added a second block in the rear, standing 40 storeys and 152 metres high, in 1973.
