Spanish Comics
Spanish comics are the comics of Spain. Comics in Spain are usually called ''historietas'' or ''cómics'', with ''tebeos'' primarily denoting the magazines containing the medium. ''Tebeo'' is a phonetic adaptation of ''TBO'', a long-running (1917–1983) Spanish comic magazine, and sounds like "''te veo''" ("I see you"). Two publishing houses — Editorial Bruguera and Editorial Valenciana — dominated the Spanish comics market for most of its history. Spanish artists have traditionally worked in other markets reaching great success, either in the American (e.g., Eisner Award winners Sergio Aragonés, Salvador Larroca, Gabriel Hernández Walta, Marcos Martín or David Aja), the British (e.g., Carlos Ezquerra, co-creator of ''Judge Dredd'') or the Franco-Belgian one (e.g., first Fauve d'Or winner Julio Ribera or ''Blacksad'' authors Juan Díaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido). The Spanish market is also known for its many studios, which for a long time - relatively cheaply and qui ...

Editorial Valenciana
An editorial, or leading article (UK) or leader (UK) is an article written by the senior editorial people or publisher of a newspaper, magazine, or any other written document, often unsigned. Australian and major United States newspapers, such as '' The New York Times'' and '' The Boston Globe'', often classify editorials under the heading "opinion". Illustrated editorials may appear in the form of editorial cartoons. Typically, a newspaper's editorial board evaluates which issues are important for their readership to know the newspaper's opinion on. Editorials are typically published on a dedicated page, called the editorial page, which often features letters to the editor from members of the public; the page opposite this page is called the op-ed page and frequently contains opinion pieces (hence the name think pieces) by writers not directly affiliated with the publication. However, a newspaper may choose to publish an editorial on the front page. In the English-langu ...

Cartooning and other forms of illustration are the most common image-making means in comics; '' fumetti'' is a form that uses photographic images. European Comics
European comics are comics produced in Europe. The '' comic album'' is a very common printed medium. The typical ''album'' is printed in large format, generally with high quality paper and colouring, commonly 24x32 cm (9.4x12.6 in), has around 48–60 pages, but examples with more than 100 pages are common. While sometimes referred to as graphic novels, this term is rarely used in Europe, and is not always applicable as albums often consist of separate short stories, placing them somewhere halfway between a comic book and a graphic novel. The European comic genres vary from the humorous adventure vein, such as ''The Adventures of Tintin'' and ''Asterix'', to more adult subjects like ''Tex Willer'', ''Diabolik'', and ''Thorgal''. History The roots of European on-paper comics date back to 18th century caricatures (mocking others styles or behaviors) and illustrated picture books such as Wilhelm Busch's Max and Moritz. The early 19th century Swiss artist Rodolphe Töpffer is regarde ...

Mexican Comics
Comics culture in Mexico is far from being a modern phenomenon. Its roots may be traced back to many stages in Mexican history. Ancient history Indeed, Mexican intellectuals such as Ilan Stavans agree that centuries-old pre-Columbian codices and other ancient documents could be seen as primary sources of the comics culture in the country.Ilan Stavans, ''The essential Ilan Stavans'', (Routledge, 2000), Revolutionary times Another important influence has been the work of José Guadalupe Posada whose satirical cartoons helped create a political identity of visual art. Political satire was quite a strong movement during the Porfiriato (1884–1911). Many newspapers became almost legendary because of their political comics and vignettes that were published during this era and during the subsequent Mexican Revolution (1910-1920). As a result of the harsh government repression, the political cartoon ("caricatura política") practically became the only means of free expression in those ...
