Sint-Katelijne-Waver
Sint-Katelijne-Waver (, old spelling: ''Kathelijne-Waver''; french: Wavre-Sainte-Catherine, ) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises the towns of Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Waver and Sint-Katelijne-Waver proper. In 2021, Sint-Katelijne-Waver had a total population of 21,197. The total area is 36.12 km2. Roosendael, a ruined relic of a cistercian abbey is situated here and today hosts a youth and touristic centre with pleasant walkways. Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Waver is a Belgian village roughly 10 km east of Mechelen. It is a part of Sint-Katelijne-Waver. Frans Verschoren
Frans Verschoren (5 March 1874 – 5 December 1951) was a Flemish writer. Biography He was born in Sint-Katelijne-Waver in 1874. After his studies at the normal school, he became a teacher in Lier and in Turnhout. In Lier he had Felix Timmermans as a pupil. He then also became director of the Walcourt and later Boom state secondary schools. He was the author in particular of tales for young people. He died in Westmalle, Belgium, in 1951. Jef Andries
Jef Andries (18 January 1919 – 26 September 2006) was a Belgian footballer. He played for Mechelen from 1936 until 1955. Biography Andries grew up in the hamlet of Elzestraat in Sint-Katelijne-Waver. In the 1940s he became one of the star players of FC Malinois, where he played on the right wing. With this team he became national champion in the 1942–43, 1945–46 and 1947–48 seasons. Jean Dockx
Jean Baptiste Dockx (24 May 1941 – 15 January 2002) was a Belgian international footballer. He played for Mechelen, Racing White and Anderlecht, and for the Belgium national team in the 1970 FIFA World Cup and the 1972 UEFA European Football Championship. He was later a manager, and was caretaker manager of Anderlecht in 1999. On 15 January 2002, Dockx died unexpectedly at the age of 60 from a traumatic aortic rupture. Anderlecht paid a lot of attention to his death and praised him as one of the most valuable players the club had ever had. In 2005 he was nominated for the title ''De Grootste Belg'' (The Greatest Belgian), but did not make it to the final nomination list. Herman J.P. Portocarero (born 6 January 1952, in Antwerp) is a Belgian writer and diplomat of Portuguese and Spanish ancestry.
