Sihu, Yunlin
Sihu Township (, Wade–Giles: Szuhu) is a Township (Taiwan), rural township in Yunlin County, Taiwan. Geography As of February 2023, it has a population total of 21,458 and an area of 77.1189 km2, including a section of coastline on the Taiwan Strait. History Sihu's coastal waters were traditionally used in oyster farming, but in 1991 they were zoning, zoned for offshore industrial use. Township (Taiwan)
Townships are the third-level administrative subdivisions of counties of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with county-administered cities. After World War II, the townships were established from the following conversions on the Japanese administrative divisions: Although local laws do not enforce strict standards for classifying them, generally urban townships have a larger population and more business and industry than rural townships, but not to the extent of county-administered cities. Under townships, there is still the village as the fourth or basic level of administration. Yunlin County
Yunlin County (Mandarin pinyin: ''Yúnlín Xiàn''; Taigi POJ: ''Hûn-lîm-koān''; Hakka PFS: ''Yùn-lìm-yen'') is a county in western Taiwan. Yunlin County borders the Taiwan Strait to the west, Nantou County to the east, Changhua County to the north at the Zhuoshui River, and Chiayi County to the south at the Beigang River. Yunlin is part of the Chianan Plain, a flat land known for its agriculture. Agricultural products of Yunlin County include pomelo, tea leaves, suan cai, papaya and muskmelon. Yunlin's rivers give it potential for hydroelectricity. Douliu is the largest and capital city of Yunlin. It is the only county on the main island of Taiwan where no city with the same name exists. Taiwan Strait
The Taiwan Strait is a -wide strait separating the island of Taiwan and continental Asia. The strait is part of the South China Sea and connects to the East China Sea to the north. The narrowest part is wide. The Taiwan Strait is itself a subject of international dispute over its political status. As the People's Republic of China claims to enjoy "sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the Taiwan Strait" and regards the waterway as " internal territorial waters" instead of being international waters, this means that the Chinese government denies any foreign vessel having the freedom of navigation in the strait. Oyster Farming
Oyster farming is an aquaculture (or mariculture) practice in which oysters are bred and raised mainly for their pearls, shells and inner organ tissue, which is eaten. Chen Kuei-ru ( zh, 陳奎儒; also transliterated as Chen Kuei-ju; born 22 September 1993) is a Taiwanese athlete competing in the hurdling, sprint hurdles. He won a silver medal at the 2017 Summer Universiade. His personal bests are 13.34 seconds in the 110 metres hurdles (+0.1 m/s, Taipei 2019) and 7.81 seconds in the 60 metres hurdles (Doha 2016). Lee Chin-yung
Lee Chin-yung (; born 1 August 1951) is a Taiwanese politician. He was a member of the Legislative Yuan from 1993 to 1997, when he was elected Mayor of Keelung. Lee remained mayor until 2001. He served as acting Yunlin County magistrate in 2005, and later served a full term in the office between 2014 and 2018. Following an unsuccessful bid for reelection as Yunlin County magistrate, Lee was appointed chairperson of the Central Election Commission in 2019. Education Lee received his bachelor's and master's degrees in law from National Chung Hsing University and National Taiwan University, respectively. Early political career Lee was a judge on the Hualien, Yilan and Taichung district courts, prior to sitting on the Legislative Yuan from 1993 to 1997 as a representative of Keelung, followed by a single term as mayor of Keelung.
