The Shire of Ballan was a local government area about west of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1862 until 1994. History Ballan was first incorporated as a road district on 14 October 1862, and became a shire on 2 November 1864. On 9 October 1921, parts of the shire were annexed to the Shire of Kyneton. The Grampians is an economic rural region located in the western part of Victoria, Australia. The region lies to the northwest of the western suburbs of Greater Melbourne, to the state's western border with South Australia and includes the Grampians National Park and significant gold mining heritage assets. Greendale is a town in central Victoria, Australia in the Shire of Moorabool local government area, west north west of the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Greendale and the surrounding area had a population of 602. Gordon is a small town in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia, named after settler George Gordon. The Shire of Moorabool is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 34,158. It includes the towns of Ballan, Bacchus Marsh, Balliang, Mount Wallace, Myrniong, Blackwood, Greendale, Gordon, Korweinguboora and Mount Egerton, Bungaree, Elaine and Wallace. Road districts were established in the colony of Victoria, Australia, pursuant to legislation passed in 1853 and were an early form of local government in Victoria. The districts were outside towns, which were instead incorporated either as municipalities or boroughs. The road districts were created between 1853 and 1871.
