Shamus Award (horse)
Shamus Award (foaled 2010) is an Australian thoroughbred racehorse, and winner of the 2013 Cox Plate. He is notable for being the only horse in the history of the race to win it as a maiden. Shamus Award was sired by Snitzel (horse), Snitzel out of Sunset Express and was trained by Danny O'Brien (racehorse trainer), Danny O'Brien. Early career Shamus Award made his racing debut at Moonee Valley Racecourse on the same day as the 2012 Cox Plate running 3rd in a two year old's race. He placed 3rd in his next two races before entering his first Group One race, the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes where as a 100/1 shot he ran an eye catching 5th. During the 2013 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival Shamus Award ran 2nd first up before putting in a poor seventh. Snitzel (horse)
Snitzel (foaled 24 August 2002) is a Group 1 winning Australian thoroughbred racehorse and successful stallion, having sired over 100 individual stakes winners. Background Bred by Francois Naude from the stakes-winning Snippets mare Snippets’ Lass, Snitzel was purchased for A$260,000 by his trainer Gerald Ryan for owners Damion and Camilla Flower at the 2004 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. Racing career 2004/05: two-year-old season Snitzel won his first three starts as a spring 2YO, including the Listed Breeders' Plate, and progressed to win the Skyline Stakes in February 2005. The Caulfield Guineas is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race held over 1600 metres (1 mile) at set weights for three-year-old horses at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia. Incentivise (foaled 22 October 2016) is a multiple Group One winning Australian thoroughbred racehorse. Background Incentivise was homebred by his owner and original trainer Steve Tregea at his Windermere Stud property in the Darling Downs of southern Queensland. Incentivise's dam, Miss Argyle, has also produced three other Stakes winners, Ardrossan (by Redoute's Choice) winner of the Concorde Handicap in New Zealand; Cheyenne Warrior (by Not A Single Doubt) winner of the Gold Sovereign Stakes in Tasmania and Bergerac (by Drumbeats) winner of the Ipswich Cup. The Toorak Handicap is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race run as an open handicap race, over a distance of 1,600 metres at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia. Currently, the prizemoney is A$1,000,000. History The race is held annually in October on Caulfield Guineas day, the first day of the MRC Spring Carnival. During World War II the race was run at Flemington Racecourse. The G1 1400 metre Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, held three weeks earlier under the same handicap conditions at Caulfield is considered the predominant lead up race. The Queensland Derby is a Brisbane Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds at, set weights, run over a distance of 2400 metres at Eagle Farm Racecourse, Brisbane, Australia in June during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. Mr Quickie (foaled 10 August 2015) is a retired multiple Group 1 winning Australian bred thoroughbred racehorse. Background Mr Quickie was a A$115,000 Magic Millions purchase for Dalziel Racing from the Rosemont Stud draft. Rosemont Stud remained in the ownership and also stand his sire Shamus Award. Racing career Un-raced as a two-year-old, Mr Quickie made his debut on the 25 September 2018 at Murtoa Racecourse, where he finished in second placing. Mr Quickie then proceeded to win 9 of his next 12 starts, which culminated on 8 June 2019 with his first Group One victory at Eagle Farm in the Queensland Derby. He was backed in from $5.50 to start a $2.80 favourite. He defeated Vow And Declare by just under a length who would later go on that year to win the Melbourne Cup.
