Muswellbrook Shire Council
Muswellbrook Shire is a local government area in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is situated adjacent to the New England Highway and the Hunter railway line. Muswellbrook Shire was established on 1 July 1979 from the amalgamation of the Municipality of Muswellbrook with the adjacent Denman Shire, which had been called Muswellbrook Shire between 1907 and 1968. The Mayor of the Muswellbrook Shire Council is Cr. Steven Reynolds. Main towns and villages The Shire includes Muswellbrook, Denman, Baerami, McCullys Gap, Martindale, Muscle Creek, Sandy Hollow, Widden and Wybong. Coal Mining Muswellbrook started as coal mining town in late 1800s and began open cut mining in 1944. The oldest coal was opened in 1906. Bylong Valley Way
Bylong Valley Way is a New South Wales country road linking the Golden Highway near Sandy Hollow to the Castlereagh Highway near Ilford. It is named after the Bylong Valley, through which the road passes. Route In conjunction with the Bathurst-Ilford Road to Bathurst, this quiet, scenic route provides a leisurely alternative to going through Sydney to travel between the Hunter Region and Central Tablelands. History The passing of the ''Main Roads Act of 1924'' through the Parliament of New South Wales provided for the declaration of Main Roads, roads partially funded by the State government through the Main Roads Board (later the Department of Main Roads, and eventually Transport for NSW). Bylong is a village in New South Wales, Australia, in the Mid-Western Regional Council. It is located on the Bylong Valley Way. The area is home to numerous horse studs. The champion racehorse and sire Heroic was born in the area. Bylong hosts an annual Mouse racing event. Access Bylong can be accessed from the Hunter Region by travelling west along the Golden Highway and turn onto the Bylong Valley Way, before Sandy Hollow. If travelling from Ilford, Bylong can be accessed by travelling north along the Castlereagh Highway and turn onto the Bylong Valley Way. Railways Bylong has a railway crossing loop, east of Bylong on the Sandy Hollow–Gulgong (originally Maryvale) railway line. Sandy Hollow is a small rural town in New South Wales, Australia in Muswellbrook Shire. The town is located on the Golden Highway in the far west of the Upper Hunter Region, about 260 km north of Sydney. It is located around halfway between Denman and Merriwa, 1 km west of the intersection of the Golden Highway and the Bylong Valley Way. Denman is a small town in New South Wales, Australia, in Muswellbrook Shire. It is on the Golden Highway in the Upper Hunter Region, about north of Sydney. At the 2016 census, Denman had a population of 1,789. Description Denman is situated on the Hunter River near the Wollemi National Park. The main rural industries in the region are wine grape growing, horse breeding and farming. The town holds the annual Food and Wine Affair festival on the first Saturday of May.
