Séamus Cleere
Séamus Cleere (born 1940) is an Irish retired hurler. His career included three All-Ireland Championship victories with the Kilkenny senior hurling team, including one as captain in 1963. After beginning his career at club level with Bennettsbridge, Cleere joined the Kilkenny minor team as a 17-year-old in 1958 and subsequently had a brief stint with the junior side. He was promoted to the Kilkenny senior team in 1960. From his debut, Cleere was ever-present as a right wing-back and made 22 championship appearances in a career that ended with his last game in 1969. During that time he was part of three All-Ireland Championship-winning teams – in 1963, when he captained the side, 1967 and as a substitute in 1969. Erin's Own GAA (Kilkenny)
Erin's Own Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1885 and since then has been the main sporting organization in the Castlecomer area in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Erin's Own fielded teams in 11 different grades of hurling and in 7 grades of gaelic football in 2006, and is currently undertaking major development at its new ground, Canon Kearns Park. With a membership of about 20 adults and about 100 youths the club is in the enviable position of having two properties, the first, The Prince Grounds, in the town, and the second, Canon Kearns Park, on the outskirts of the town, towards Kilkenny. History Erin's Own has enjoyed senior status since 1958, and while the Senior hurling title remains elusive, hundreds of players and supporters have derived great enjoyment from the club over the years. 1969 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship
The 1969 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 75th staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board in 1887. The championship began on 8 June 1969 and ended on 19 April 1970. Rower-Inistioge were the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Galmoy in the second round. On 19 April 1970, James Stephens won the championship after an 8–05 to 2–07 defeat of Fenians in the final. It was their third championship title overall and their first title since 1937. Format change At the Kilkenny County Convention on 24 January 1969, it was decided to change the format of the championship by introducing a losers' group for teams defeated in the first round. The 1965 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 71st staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board. The championship ran from 4 July to 29 August 1965. Bennettsbridge entered the championship as the defending champions. The final was played on 29 August 1965 at Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, between Mooncoin and Bennettsbridge, in what was their first meeting in the final in 10 years.
