1965 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship
The 1965 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 71st staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board. The championship ran from 4 July to 29 August 1965. Bennettsbridge entered the championship as the defending champions. The final was played on 29 August 1965 at Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, between Mooncoin and Bennettsbridge, in what was their first meeting in the final in 10 years. Mooncoin won the match by 2–08 to 1–08 to claim their 12th championship title overall and a first title in 29 years. It remains their last championship triumph. Thomastown's Ollie Walsh was the championship's top scorer with 10–04. Piltown GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Piltown, County Kilkenny, Ireland. A Piltown GAA club was founded in 1887. Several versions existed until the modern club founded in 1953 following the advent of Parish Rule in Kilkenny. Piltown fields teams in Hurling, Gaelic Football, Camogie and Ladies' Gaelic Football at all ages from Under-8 to adult in each code. Éire Óg GAA was a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was almost solely concerned with the game of hurling. History The Éire Óg club was founded in Kilkenny CBS in 1931. Initially adopting blue and white colours and called Young Irelands, the club quickly became Éire Óg and changed to green and white. The club first came to hurling prominence by winning five Kilkenny MAHC titles in six seasons between 1932 and 1937. A number of these schoolboy players from this grade went on to form the nucleus of the club's adult team over the following decade. After winning the Kilkenny JHC title in 1936, Éire Óg secured promotion to the top tier of Kilkenny hurling by claiming the Kilkenny IHC title the following year. Erin's Own Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1885 and since then has been the main sporting organization in the Castlecomer area in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Erin's Own fielded teams in 11 different grades of hurling and in 7 grades of gaelic football in 2006, and is currently undertaking major development at its new ground, Canon Kearns Park. With a membership of about 20 adults and about 100 youths the club is in the enviable position of having two properties, the first, The Prince Grounds, in the town, and the second, Canon Kearns Park, on the outskirts of the town, towards Kilkenny.
