Suzhou Guangfu Airport
Suzhou Guangfu Airport , also known as Suzhou West Airfield, is a People's Liberation Army Air Force Base in the city of Suzhou in East China's Jiangsu province, located 22 kilometers southwest of Suzhou City. From February 1994 until 29 October 2002 it briefly served civil flights for Suzhou, but is now exclusively used by the military. Suzhou is now mainly served by Sunan Shuofang International Airport, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, and Shanghai Pudong International Airport. People's Liberation Army
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is the principal military force of the People's Republic of China and the armed wing of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The PLA consists of five service branches: the Ground Force, Navy, Air Force, Rocket Force, and Strategic Support Force. It is under the leadership of the Central Military Commission (CMC) with its chairman as commander-in-chief. The People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF; ), also known as the Chinese Air Force (中国空军) or the People's Air Force (人民空军), is an aerial service branch of the People's Liberation Army, the regular armed forces of the People's Republic of China. The PLAAF was officially established on 11 November 1949 and it is composed of 5 branches which are aviation, anti-aircraft artillery, surface-to-air missiles (SAM), radar, and Airborne Corps. Suzhou (; ; Suzhounese: ''sou¹ tseu¹'' , Mandarin: ), alternately romanized as Soochow, is a major city in southern Jiangsu province, East China. Suzhou is the largest city in Jiangsu, and a major economic center and focal point of trade and commerce. East China
East China () is a geographical and a loosely defined cultural region that covers the eastern coastal area of China. A concept abolished in 1978, for economical purposes the region was defined from 1949 to 1961 by the Chinese Central Government to include the provinces of (in alphabetical order) Anhui, Fujian, Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang, as well as the municipality of Shanghai. In 1961, the province of Jiangxi was added to the region (previously it was considered part of South Central China). Sunan Shuofang International Airport is an airport serving the cities of Wuxi and Suzhou in southern Jiangsu Province, China (Sunan meaning "Southern Jiangsu" in Chinese). It is located in in Xinwu District, southeast of Wuxi and northwest of Suzhou. The airport was built in 1955 for military use, and commercial flights only started in 2004. Shanghai Pudong International Airport is one of two international airports serving Shanghai and a major aviation hub of East Asia.
