Stubøprisen
Stubøprisen (an Award initiated in 1989, in memory of the late guitar virtuoso and Northern Norway Enthusiast Thorgeir Stubø) is the highest honor given to a Northern Norwegian jazz musician. The award is given every second year to a person who makes or has made a special contribution to the Northern Norwegian Jazz Scene by the Thorgeir Stubø Memorial Fund (established 1987). The idea behind Thorgeir Stubø Memorial Fund is to honor a great jazz musician and simultaneously stimulate Northern Norwegian culture. The Stubøprisen Winners is awarded a grant of NKR 15 000 (2011) and a statuette created by the artist and sculptor Karl Erik Harr. Oddmund Finnseth
Oddmund Jarle Finnseth (born 11 February 1957 in Sortland, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (upright bass), composer and music teacher. Biography Finnseth studied music on the Jazz program at Trondheim musikkonservatorium (1983–86) and joined the Asmund Bjørken Orchestra during the time of his studies. Later he has recorded albums with 'Bjørn Krokfoss Octet' and the band 'Bossa Nordpå' (1993–) of Marit Sandvik. He was part of the Randy Johnston tour, led by Øystein Norvoll for the 'Nordnorsk Jazzsenter' (2002). Finnseth teaches music at the high school 'Sortland videregående skole' and 'Heggen videregående skole' in Harstad, and play in the bands 'Sortland Storband' and 'Steinar Kjeldsen Quartet'. Jan Ditlev Hansen
Jan Ditlev Hansen (born 26 March 1946 in Trondheim, Norway) is a Norwegian Jazz journalist and program host at the NRK. He is married to Cand.polit Randi Marie Haugland, at University of Tromsø. Career Hansen has been closely involved in northern Norwegian jazz for 40 years. First in the Harstad as secretary and director of Nordnorsk Jazzforum in the early 1970s, then in Vadsø, in which he was master of ceremonies during the first Varangerfestivalen in 1982. Since 1978 he has worked for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, and has made numerous radio and television programs about the northern Norwegian jazz. From 1997 he has been living in Tromsø, where he produces his weekly Rundt midnatt (Around midnight) for the NRK P2. He is also part of the NRK Jazz editorial. Finn Sletten
Finn Sletten (born 11 August 1952) is a Norwegian jazz musician (drums and percussions). Career Sletten was born in Bodø. After a study tour to Arizona (1968–70), he played in his home town with such musicians as Paul Weeden Band at Festival of North Norway (1972) and an album (1974). In Oslo he participated in Magni Wentzel Quintet, including Jon Eberson (guitar), Tore Brunborg (saxophone) and Jon Balke (keyboards) among others. Tore Johansen
Tore Johansen (born 23 December 1977) is a Norwegian jazz trumpeter and the younger brother of drummer Roger Johansen. He has worked with Chick Corea, Karin Krog, Kenny Wheeler, Steve Swallow, Lars Jansson, Hal Galper, Siri Gellein, and Jan Gunnar Hoff. Career Johansen was born in Bodø. As a teenager, he played in the Bodø Jazz Quintet with his brother Roger Johansen and saxophonist Atle Nymo. Henning Gravrok
Henning Gravrok (born 19 March 1948 in Tovik, Northern Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (saxophone) and music teacher, raised in Harstad and educated as teacher. Since 1975 he has been central to the Tromsø and Bodø jazz scenes. Career In Tromsø, he played in the bands "Hei og Hå" (1975–79) and "Heracleum" (1976–78), "Inge Kolsvik Quartet" (1979–80), "Fusion Band" (1980–81), "Kjell Svendsen Quintet" (1981–83), "Øystein Norvoll Quintet" and "Synk" (1983–84). Hallgeir Pedersen (born 24 May 1973 in Tromsø, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz guitarist, well known for his Thorgeir Stubø, Wes Montgomery and Coltrane inspired bop guitar performances and recordings like ''West Coast Blues'' (2002) with his own trio. Career Pedersen was raised in Øksfjord, a small village in Finnmark, northern Norway, and started early playing heavy-metal guitar, inspired by guitarists like Ritchie Blackmore, Ronni Le Tekrø, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Konrad Kaspersen
Konrad Kaspersen (born 1 March 1948 in Tromsø, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (upright bass). Career Kaspersen contributed in Kurt Samuelsen's band, including Henning Gravrok, Kjell Bartholsen and Thorgeir Stubø in the late 70's and early 80's, showing up on scenes like Moldejazz. Trond Sverre Hansen
Trond Sverre Hansen (born 27 January 1964 in Narvik, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (drums). He is the son of jazz trombonist, Viggo Hansen and is considered one of the most prominent Norwegian drummers in the bebop genre. Career Hansen debuted at the age of 14 with the legendary north-Norwegian guitarist Thorgeir Stubø, and participated in his quartet (1981–82). In the early 1980s he also played within "Samasjyen" in Harstad, and was, in other words a very young contributor to Narviks vital jazz scene at this time. Øystein Norvoll (born 26 June 1954 in Tromsø, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (guitar), who early was interested in and a winner of the "Gjett på Jazz" (1973). He is married to the vocalist Marit Sandvik and they gave birth to the artist Dagny Norvoll Sandvik (b. 1990). Marit Sandvik
Marit Sandvik (born 19 July 1956 in Harstad, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz singer. Her husband is guitarist Øystein Norvoll and their daughter is the artist Dagny Norvoll Sandvik. Career Sandvik has participated in numerous vocal and jazz groups in Harstad, Trondheim and Tromsø. Kjell Bartholdsen (2 October 1938 in Hammerfest – 6 November 2009) was a Norwegian jazz musician (saxophone), that lived in Bodø from 1968.
