Bonspiel
A bonspiel is a curling tournament, consisting of several games, often held on a weekend. Until the 20th century most bonspiels were held outdoors, on a frozen freshwater loch. Today almost all bonspiels are held indoors on specially prepared artificial ice. Ontario Curling Tour
The Ontario Curling Tour is a group of curling bonspiels, which takes places in Ontario, Canada and attracts some of the top male and female curlers in the province, and from across the country and world. The OCT was designed to promote competitive curling from a grass root level. The events for the Ontario Curling Tour begin at the end of August and typically run until December, with occasional events taking place in January. Several of the events on the Ontario Curling Tour are also included in the World Curling Tour. All events on the Ontario Curling Tour, much like those on World Curling Tour, contain a prize purse for the winning teams, and award CTRS (Canadian Team Ranking System) points to the Canadian teams competing. Port Elgin, Ontario
Port Elgin is a community in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. Its location is in the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. Originally named Normanton the town was renamed Port Elgin when it was incorporated in 1874, after James Bruce, 8th Earl of Elgin, a former Governor General of the Province of Canada. Although road signs indicate the name Port Elgin, it is no longer an entity, per se. In 1998, the Town of Southampton, the Town of Port Elgin and Saugeen Township were amalgamated to form the Town of Port Elgin-Saugeen-Southampton. Dayna Deruelle
Dayna Deruelle (born June 17, 1982) is a Canadian curler from Brampton, Ontario. He currently skips a rink on the World Curling Tour. His team competes in various events on the Ontario Curling Tour throughout the season and competes annually in the Ontario Curling Association Dominion Tankard play downs. Deruelle and his teammates Andrew McGaugh, Kevin Lagerquist and Evan DeViller enjoyed some success in their first season as a team when they qualified to represent Region 3 in the 2012 Ontario Dominion Tankard in Stratford, Ontario. Cory Heggestad (born February 4, 1973 in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from Barrie, Ontario. He currently skips a team on the World Curling Tour. Heggestad is a former Canadian Mixed Curling Champion. At the 2013 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, he skipped a rink that included Heather Graham, Greg Balsdon and Amy MacKay to a national championship for Ontario. After posting a 9-2 round robin record, the team beat Quebec (skipped by Mike Fournier) and then Nova Scotia ( Brent MacDougall) to claim the championship. The team represented Ontario once again at the 2014 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, finishing the round robin tied for third with an 8-3 record. After beating New Brunswick's Sylvie Robichaud rink in a tie breaker, the team beat Saskatchewan's Shaun Meachem in the semi-final before losing to Alberta's Darren Moulding in the final. Mark Bice
Mark Bice (born October 10, 1984 in Sarnia, Ontario) is a Canadian curler. He used to skip a team on the World Curling Tour. Career Bice had a fairly successful junior career. Bice is a two time provincial junior champion, winning in 2003 and 2005 and was a provincial schoolboy champion in 2002. In 2003, his rink of Mike Callan, Rob Pruliere and Jeff Wilson finished with a 7-5 record at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships- out of the playoffs. In 2005, they went to the Canadian Juniors again, this time with Codey Maus replacing Callan. The team finished second after the round robin with a 9-3 record. After defeating Ian Fitzner-LeBlanc's Nova Scotia rink in the semi-final, Bice lost in the final match, against Saskatchewan's Kyle George. Mark Kean
Mark Kean (born June 22, 1988 in Innerkip, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Woodstock, Ontario. He currently skips his own team out of Ottawa. Career Kean's junior career involved winning the provincial junior mixed title in 2009. Kean made a quick transition to men's curling winning the provincial Colts trophy in 2010 and in 2011 playing in his first provincial tournament. At the 2011 provincial championship, his rink finished with a 3-7 record. As preparation for the 2011 provincial, the Kean rink played in their first Grand Slam of Curling event, at the 2011 BDO Canadian Open of Curling, where they went winless (0-5). Richard Frederick Krell (born July 13, 1992) is a Canadian curler from Canmore, Alberta. He currently plays third on Team Jeff Richard. Career University curling Krell was a member of the Wilfrid Laurier University curling team, winning provincial titles in 2015 and 2016 and a national title in 2016. Krell has played in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 CIS/CCA Curling Championships for Laurier, throwing third stones for Aaron Squires.
